Hey I got a 97 ranger with a 4 inch lift...it was lifted in 98...my camber is nagitave 4 degrees...they can't aline it till they can bring that camber back up...it sits level but the cambers off alot...anyone know what might be causeing this? When I back up my tires lean in from the top and were going forward but we replaced the ratious arm bushings and they helped a little but the cambers still off....Please help

 

 

Try replacing your ball joints. Sounds like you have completely wore them out.

 

I took it in last week and had them check and they were in good shape. I've replaced wheel bearings packed and new seals. The ratious arm bushings too. Any other ideas?

 

If your ball joints are in good shape, I would say your coil springs are completely crapped out.

 

I thought about that too...the one thing that throws me is it still sits level front and rear and the rear is origional with some blocks...they put an arm on there thats the 4 inch arm and they make a 2.5 inch arm and les schwab who's doing the alinment thought that might change the angel better then the coils but they thought the coils would help a tad bit but not much...don't remember what arm they were talking about.

 

Pivit arm maybe? I will look at the paper later on today at work....so in an hour or so I will know the name for sure!!! I believe its just the passenger side thats off too but not to sure! I will take some pitures and see if I can show whats going on.

 

I highly doubt it is an axle pivot bracket. If you wheel, you could have bent an axle beam.

 

I do but I don't...my old truck i loved to wheel...this one I was trying to keep better care...so I really havn't done anything at all crazy..just some light trails stretching out her legs. Everyone trys to get me to do crazy shiz, but I'm not willing to do to it what i did to my last truck. So No. The old tires I had were new and they didn't rub over time and tires ware they started to rub...threw me off cause it didn't make any logic sense. I will take some pictures today and let you see what I mean...

 

The only logicaly things it could be is the following:
- Bad ball joing
- sagging coil spring
- bent axle beam

 

Just stick some washers under the coils to boost the lift back up to where it needs to be.

 

?is that a 4x4 or 2wd ibeam?? did you try new eccentrics?? they sell them with different offsets, i dont know if they have one for 4* but ill take a look,

 

NO that is NOT recommended for safety reasons. He needs to fix the problem, not cause more.

 

problem is saggin coils i.e no damage. washers is the same thing as a $75 set of coils spacers. Many people (myself included) have run washers with no ill effects. What safety reasons are you claiming to know of?

If its negative camber he needs more lift, either new coils (READ big $$$$) or a spacer (either $75+ or less than $20 at the hardware store)

 

Or did you recently go down in tire size?

 

The washers will shift way too much.

**DO NOT PUT WASHERS UNDER YOUR COIL SPRINGS**


tire size doesn't matter with alignment. The tires has nothing to do with how the SUSPENSION is aligned. It is all in the ball joints and tie rod ends.

 

Just because you *think* they will shift too much does not make it so. Mine moved less than 1/8" before putting the truck on its own weight. Now they don't move. They are in the same spot they were about a year ago when they went on. With so many experienced offroaders using them, I think problems would've been noticed.

I asked about the tires because when I put little tires back on my truck the camber appeared slightly negative compared to the big meats. But ALL in the bj's and TRE's is a big statement. It appears to me his coils have sagged after 10 years. (not bj or TRE)

Either way, he's heard my option, I'm done here.

 

i made my coil spacers in machine shop class as a test grade...used used 3 inch stock drilled a 1 3/8 hole for the bolt (or i think thats what size it is..cant remember now) and made it .750 thick...works fine..lifted my front 1.5 inches and had no problems with it and had them on for months now...and try new camber bushings...i cant remember what mine...nothing wrong with making coil spacers as long as they are machinined right and so that they dont have enough slack to shift around the bolt...and so that the nut can got all the way down so some thread is sticking out of the top...

 

K got some pictures...and also...the fronts level with the rear, new coils are 150 per pair...no tire size has stayed the same sense it was lifted 10 years ago.33x12.5x15. either or if i put spacers washers or new coils would just lift up the front end and uneven out front to rear, and also i don't know if just putting a little more lift in the front is going to fix the camber 4 degrees neg. anyways heres some pictures...i am taking it in to my canic and having him look at it on thursday for free and see what he says but i would like to figure this out before then..............pictures....

you can check you ball joints yourself. jack up the front of the truck and try to wiggle the tire, if you can, get a long bar and stick it under the tire and lift. if it gives (might only be a little bit) then their shot, if they dont then their prob fine, but id still get em checked out

 

 

k...its only that one side. And so yes I will take a look tonight for my self if I can figure it out, otherwise I will have it check on Thursday, by someone who knows what they are doing. Thanks for everyones input!
