Synthetic Oil

I know I want synthetic oil since thats what I have been using.

I am gonna start changing my own oil to save some money and wanted some opinons.

Form what I have heard Mobil 1 is some of the best stuff you can get. From what I have looked up Royal Purpel seems to be a thin oil. So I might stay away from that.

My question is what weight oil should I use? What is the advantages to one over the other? My truck has 71k on the ticker.

Thanks,

Jake

I don't know of Mobil1 is the best but it's worked great for me. I change at 7500 and looks the same as it went in. I'm currently using the Extended Performance where you can change at 15000 miles, I just hit 5 on it the other day so I'm gonna change the oil filter and see what it looks like. At 10k I'm gonna send some away for a oil analysis.

Be careful not to fall into the Scamsoil extended oil change scenario! Keep in mind, a UOA will not pick up on oil sludging, the biggest problem with extended oil change intervals.

How much does that stabilizer do? I'm about to change out my oil and put some synthetic in.

I lived in Coloardo for 20 years jake... any syn. in a 10w-30 or the engine recomended 5w-30 in the winter...

Note: a thinner oil or lower viscosity will produce a slightly better fuel economy...

Mobil has a new 0w-20 "GREEN" oil...

I would never go over 5K changing oil...

O yeah ask the parts store for those window oil changing stickers I get them free...

I used Motorcraft oil at 3k, and 6k, After I decided to keep the Ranger for a long time I switched to Mobile 1 fully synthetic; Just turned over 30k on my 04, 4.0. Honesty I cant tell much of a difference but piece of mind on my part. Still change it at 3000k even with fully syn. Mobile 1 fully syn is a tried and true oil. Ive basicly used Mobile 1 most of the 14 years ive been driving. Just use oil type your engine calls for, it should say on your oil filler cap.

Once a motor has 20k miles on it. I always use 10w-30 mobil 1 and change the oil.filter at 5k miles.

Last motor I tore down had zero sludge or coking on anything. (lifters tend to get coked first)

I go a minimum of 5-7k on an oil change. The whole 3,000 mile thing is a waste of money, especially with synthetic.

I use Mobil 1, 5w30, every six months regardless of mileage. I don't put many miles on, but changing every six months is my plan.

Yes, oil changes are recommended by Ford, every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first.

I use Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5w-30, and a Motorcraft filter. You can use any 30wt oil - 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30.

I think I am going to try the Mobil 1 synthetic. It seems like everyone on here has been pretty happy with it.

Last time I bought it, Wal*Mart had it on sale for around $20-22 for a 5 quart jug. With the recent run up in oil prices, I don't know what they are charging for it today.

If you're short tripping your engine, running less then 10 miles per drive, it's never going to burn off the moisture in the oil, synthetics can't help that.

I run 10w-30 mobile one full synthetic. i like it. I dont know, i know they make oils for extended mileage, but i dont like the idea of leaving anything in there for more than 5k miles

I changed it today. I used Mobil 1 Truck & SUV full synthetic. I got a Napa gold filter. I hear they are the best filters you can buy.

actually the k&n oil filters last a while, i dont have to change mine too often and the 1" socket on the end makes it that much easier, i usually go 6K before i change the filter, when i do an oil and filter change it costs me though but its worth it. and i think the 3000 mile thing was just put out there to make you spend more money.
