Few concerns

Picked up a 93 splash edition 4.0 v6 Ranger about a month ago. Runs great, but was wondering if its a good idea to put an electric fan on the radiator. Just sitting still it will start to heat up. Stays in the Normal range. Farthest its ever gone was probably the A on Normal. If I'm sitting there I can slightly rev the motor and it will slowly cool it down. I'm still thinking thermostat, but was wondering if its really common for this motor to get that warm sitting still.

To me it sounds like the clutch is worn out on the fan. It'd make sense that the fan doesn't spin unless you rev the motor. If you're still looking to get a electric fan, many people have run them with no problems. Just make sure you get a quality controller.

If its that old the first thing I'd do is flush the radiator.
Chances are it'll have debris in the bottom of it.

I'll start with a radiator flush first. I'm used to just having an electric fan on previous cars, but nothing that is driven by the motor. The previous owner had the fan replaced, but usually the fan and clutch are one piece? I would think its new, but I'm still new to this.
