Camper Shell

So I have been super patient, combing craigslist for months and finally a stepside shell shows up today. There are no pics but the guys says it's white. My truck is green. I was wondering how much do you think it would cost to paint the shell either black or color match? Also he is asking $300. Should I try to go lower? If so how much?

When dealing with craigslist I always suggest trying for lower. It can't hurt, the worst that happens is you pay 300. It's going to cost a couple hundred dollars to have the cap painted, and I would vote if you having it done you might as well have it color matched.

the cap is prolly over a thousand new thats what i paid for mine for a long regular bed in 99.. that being said 300 aint bad but it never hurts to try to talk the price down some.. if you want a quality paint on there it will cost a couple of hundred if you dont care prolly alot less.. you may even be able to get maaco to do it or something..

I was thinking maybe Maaco, I have one where I live. The quality doesn't have to be great since the truck itself is scratched up and stuff. I know it's a great price I just priced them a month or so ago new and they were from $1000-$1275. I was going to end up buying a hard tonnaue this week, luckily this came up. The tonnaue was going to be $750 plus I needed a tail gate lock.

So I got a few quotes for painting the camper shell and both were around $425 without any "body" work. Damn, I may just have to give Maaco a call and see what they charge. Any opinions on Maaco to paint the shell?

When they quoted me on my shell it was 250-275 for paint. Also I am sure you can get him down on the price of the cap BRING CASH it speaks louder than you ever can

Maaco does subpar jobs, I've heard a lot of bad things about them. For a cab sure but not for a whole truck.

Your not looking for show quality results are you? What kind of warranty comes with it?

No I am not looking for show quality, just don't want it to peel or fade in a year. From what I gather 1-5years or so depending upon the "package" you get. If you spend more you get a longer warranty.

I would spend the money now and get a warranty, make sure to read everything before you sign off on it though.

Yeah that is what I'm thinking. I'll make a few more calls and see what I find.

Do you have any experience with them, or just from what others have said about Maaco/Earl Scheib?

I called them, they quoted about $200-$250 but they would have to look at it. I asked about the warranty on that and they said only 90 days. How have your cars held up?

I wasn't trying to sound defensive if that is how it came off. I just don't want to waste $250 on a bad paint job.

Damn you! I've been watching craigslist and saw that cap too. Nice catch though. One Day Paint and Body isnt too bad, I've had 2 buddies get cars painted there.

maybe its cause its fiberglass ... i had the accord for a year and a half and it looked great, my mom also got her 91 painted but she had the 2 stage which was only a 3 yr warranty ... both scratched mad easy though, but that can be fixed by paying a little more and getting the ext clear coat instead of the intergrated like i got .. mine had a 6 year warranty too

seriously get a quote for your entire truck if the rest of the paint is all scratched etc.
