I am trying to fix my father-in-laws 94 4.0. I need to know what year rangers had the same OHV that will drop right into the 94. Thanks.

some 95's should work but 96 they went to OBD2. But technically any 4.0 will work, they kept the block the same all the way through and just added new holes for motor mounts so a 98+ block will work, you would just have to swap over the electronics from your fathers engine as newer motors (96+) are OBD2.

here

1990-’94
The first 4.0L block was a 90TM-AB casting. It had six bolt holes on the passenger side and 10 bolt holes on the driver’s side. The dipstick hole measured about 0.380˝ in diameter.
95-96 are there own bread then 97-2000 are different yet...

you can also use

1990-’96 Aerostar
in 1997 it changed

Alright thanks guys. Its been awhile since I worried about a Ranger, lol.

Man it has been a long time. I see that you sold the silver beast Zach, I didn't think you would ever part ways with her.

I can understand that. I have found another 94 xlt with 120k miles and no problems for 2000. I am going show it to the in-laws and see what they say. Lets hope they can go with it.
