right now alls i have is a cherrybomb turbo.

basically what i want is deeper and louder. and not the ****ty fart can sound.

soo... a few thoughts were keeping the muff and removing cats with larger straight pipes- will that do anything?

also would keeping everything the same,keeping cats and just running like 3" out of the muff be louder and deeper?

if this changes anyhting im going for the muscle truck exhaust, currently it goes to the muff and no pipe from there, so to finish it up, imma bring it out the side at a forward side exit.

so basically what all will affect the sound...3" piping?...even the bends and whatnot?... or is it not very loud now bc it juss comes straight outta the muff and needs pipes?

suggestions...

 

just get pipes first i and flowmasters are the deepest ive heard for our rangers IMO i have magnoflow and i love it its the right sound for me. also you can dump your exhaust too

 

A V6 will always sound like a V6 no matter what you do to it, if you want V8 sound buy a V8.

 

Just get a borla muffler. If you need one let me know, I have one sitting in the garage.

it's funny cause I have NOTHING from the cat back and I get soooooo many compliments. Undo the whole exhaust and hear it. Only problem I have is my MPG took a nice hard dump afterwards. But now that gas is $1.88 here I don't really care!

 

i have straight pipes and i like it i get a lot of complements i have even had people ask me if it has a v8 in it but now i have a really bad exhaust leak and it sounds like **** and lost alot of power if you get rid of your cats make sure you go the whole way out the back with the exhaust so you keep back pressure so you dont lose hp

 

ookay if i kept the cats and went like 3" pipes out the muff would that do anything. i pry wont buy a system bc i only need like 2ft max of pipe bc of the frward sidee exit, ill pry juss have my friend bend them

 

no....pre cat is small so going larger won't do anything but kill your low end torque and MPG.

 

Just run nothing. If your so worried about sound run no exhaust at all. Just straight heads to atmosphere. It will sound like a muscle truck then. LOL

My buddy runs no muffler right off the cats and its annoying as hell. Driving on the freeway sucks, you can't talk and its louder than the music.

 

I had that for like a month and it wasnt that bad. It droned a lot but it didnt drown out the music.

 

i ran like that for a month or two also. i liked it. droned some sometimes, but not bad at all. It only really bothered me a couple times and that was when i was having a BAD day and it was droning on me

 

Yeah it just got annoying in the high RPMs, I liked it at idle and just crusiing around. I just had to put my muffler on to pass inspection.

 

i had the cherry bomb turbo and it was too quite so i took it off. It sat in the back of my truck for a month or so. when i put it back on for inspection it sounds much better

 

If you want "deeper" than get some type of chambered muffler (ie - 40 series, MAC flowpath, Bassani BX) with a turn down (dump) right at the exit of the muffler.

 

If you knew how to tune it you could probably fix this problem.

You can tune it all you want and you will still lose MPGs. Less low end torque mean that you will use more throttle to get the vehicle going wil eat up more gas. A small displacement non racing na engine needs backpressure to work efficiently.

The mileage reduction you are seeing has nothing to do with loss of backpressure, it is because the computer wasn't configured to run on a system without a converter. The computer is trying to compensate, and it isnt doing a very good job.

Like I always say, hardware modifications should be accompanied by the appropriate software modifications.

 

You will still lose mileage and power. There is no backpressure to create the vacuum that sucks the exhaust gasses out of the cylinders.

 

Damn straight. Talk to Justin, Phil. I bought 2 magnaflow mufflers, one SI/SO and one SI/DO, and then 2 Magnaflow tips, rolled edge, 18 inch long, stainless. I got ALL of that for 184$. That is a effing steal.

The SI/DO muffler I bought is for my 01 4.0L SOHC, its the same muffler that D. dynoed and ADDED HP/TQ from stock, versus the Fartmaster which D. dynoed and LOST HP/TQ...FROM STOCK. Plus, if you've ever heard D.'s video, his truck sounds damn good with the Magnaflow.

Ok. Everyone. I did the math. Here's how much I saved by buying from Justin, instead of direct from Magnaflow.

Tips = 73.55 EACH! (x2 = 147.10$)

Total = 444.4$

From Justin I bought ALL 4 items for 184$, and everything is STAINLESS

I highly suggest people to talk to Justin about Magnaflow mufflers and tips. I have 3 friends who are redoing their exhausts after Christmas, and they plan on going through Justin to buy them, I just haven't told Justin yet.

 

On my engine the pistons push the exhaust out after the valves open. Maybe I'm special.
