RIP Ford Ranger 3.0 V6 - no more in 2009

im sad to announce that 2008 will be the last year to buy a V6 3.0 OHV ford ranger, let us remember that despite the fact the 4.0 gets the same gas mileage and has more power etc its not fully designed and made out of as many USA parts like the 3.0 is, it also costs alot more. it is also not as reliable as the 3.0 in my opinion (im going by dealer maintenance reports) the 3.0 was a great motor and it will be missed.

I have some words to say... its been through hell and back... its been called the moaning *****.. you can bang it all you want but it will be moaning for more... Ive heard some really crazy stories about 3.0s not only in the ranger but sable, taurus and others minus the escape 3.0, but these things are really strong on one side I hate to see it go but it just needs to be put down

Shall we wait on the tribute vid on you tube like somebody did for the taurus/sable? LOL

I agree though, tough motor.. if only ford didn't neglect it for ~22 years it might have had a chance. ie update it to give it more power.

after owning a 3.0 for 6 years Im glad to see it finally get tossed away and never to be remembered. Has the power of a 4 cylinder, and the gas mileage of a 4.0, how could you like that?

My 2.3 has almost the same hp and is a blast to drive compared to the dog of a 3.0 v6, and it gets 28mpg city what more can I ask?

And reliable? I beg to differ hope you change out your cam gear after 75k miles or you might lock it up with no warning even after you maintain it and do routine maintainance.

Mark I think a lot of guys decided that you had a special case, who else had that happen to their 3.0L? My 2000 had 90k when I sold it, still ran great, no leaks or anything. I hear numerous accounts of those engines going 150,000+ miles and even see quite a few Ranger 3.0L's for sale that have 100,000+ miles with a lot of life left on them.

That would be the distributor-less (95'+ I believe) that had the cam sync issue. I have 340,000kms (like 210,000m+) on my original engine and trans that both work astonishingly well. They ARE reliable, maybe not the cam sync on the more modern versions but the motor itself is built proof in stock form.

No one said I had a special case, go look at the 3.0 forum on rps and the sticky there are more than a dozen people reporting having the same thing happen to them in their truck with the 3.0..

thank goodness. My 2003 edge was a 3.0 I thinks it's a good move on fords part as far as rangers go. No other auto maker has three engines for there compact truck. The 2.3 is one the best motors ever made. The 3.0 never had a chance. The 4.0 is a great motor too. Bye bye 3.0
