1997 ranger Misfireing (help)

Hello. I am having a misfire problem with my ranger. To start I have a 1997 3.0 V6, manual trans, with 268,000 miles on it (I know, alot of miles). Cylinder 2 and 5 are misfireing (according to the readout). I replaced the plugs with motorsports ones and checked the gap before I put them in. However, the truck idles about 900 RPM when not in gear. The engine starts to shake alot at about 1,100 RPM then steadys out at about 1,500 RPM. I also did a quick cable check by turning on the engine and letting it idle while I pull and put back on (one at a time) the spark plug cable boots on top of the engine. And everytime I do, I can hear the engine loose a little power, them I put it back on and it goes back. It does that with all the wires.

So, does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my engine?

Thanks.

I'll look into that. I'm still new to the whole mechanic thing. At least on vehicles I am. What coil are you talking about?
