Icon5 Some info on a 2004

I just got a 2004 ford ranger xlt 4x4 with a 4.0l and 5 speed. I am new to r-f and the ranger and 4x4 world and i was wondering what the truck had as far as front and rear axels, do they have factory lockers, what size tires will fit on the stock height( no lift or t-bar crank), and any other important thing i would need to know about these trucks. thanks for the help and any info that is provided.

Look on your inside door tag. You can take a picture of it if you want and we will tell you what it all means, thats the easiest way about figuring what your truck has. You have a d35 front and a 8.8 28 spline rear, probably with 4.10s but it could be 3.73s. You can easily run 32x11.5x15 or 33x10.5x15 and the metric equavilants which I think are 265/75r15

Front axle is a special Ranger only Dana 35. Rear is Ford 8.8 28 spline. Since your truck is like mine you probably have 4.10 gears and l/s in the back. 31s may fit. Not sure though. I have my bars cranked.

well its probably got an 8.8 rear axle with a 3.73 ratio...max size i would go stock is 31-10.5s unless you want to trim then you can fit 32-11.5s...your going to want to buy manual hubs once you get a chance because the vacuum hubs that are in it are no good

That would be hard to do since vacumn hubs stopped in 2000.5, you can run 32s without trimming and he probably has 4.10s, they were more common 04+
