reverse light on demand

So i can wire stuff, but have no idea about relays, which i think is what i need.

What i want is a button that turns on my reverse lights. So i can light up behind me for a second without putting it in reverse.

if anyone can help me out with what i need and how to do it, i would really like to do this

Do you want a momentary switch where you push it in and they are on but when you let go they are off or do you want something that stays on after you pushed it?

Momentary switch to 86
You'll have to find where to tap into your reverse light circuit, there you'll put 30
Fused power to 87
and ground to 85

will this allow them to run normally too though?

this would be wired into the line allowing it to connect as normal, but connects another power source when the switch it connected then.

does the switch connect to ground or is it two terminals. where can i find this relay

Yeah that would allow them to work normally as well. Any 30 amp bosch relay will be fine, any AP store will have it.

That was kinda like my idea on tailgaters. The only difference is that I wanted to hang a "GET OFF MY A$$" sign on the tailgate to light up :D

I just tap the brakes... Or get next to a car so they can't pass me and match speed. Tailgaters love that one.

I just let off the gas and the engine slows me down plenty.

anytime i wanna throw on the reverse lights, i just put on the parking brake and put the truck in reverse.

anytime i go skateboard with friends, we usually smoke hookah or something too, so i turn on the reverse lights so there's some light. they're bright as hell lol

Yeah, especially when they have somewhere urgent to be and you aren't even doing the speed limit. lol

Police who actually know the law REALLY like that one as well. Impeding traffic is no joking matter.

In reality, both tailgating and blocking people are wrong.

Hookah FTW! Nothing better than chill music and hookah with something to sip on.

:werd:

If you got a high current switch you wouldn't need a relay. Be very sure that you fuse the wire properly, though. The brake lights cant be more than a few amperes. If you swapped to 100% LED lights you definitely wouldnt need a relay.

edit: Looked up the bulb used on our trucks. For both of them you'd need a 6a fuse and 16ga wire and a switch that can handle 6a. Most toggle switches can handle up to 20a on 12v systems.

I only do it for a minute or so. Speeding and tailgating cause a lot more often than impeding traffic. It's my way of saying "slow down... it's not worth your life or someone else's."

if someone tailgates me, i usually give them a slight tap on the brakes, enough to make em slowdown a bit. they usually lay off after that. but if they dont, well, i dont move.
