License plates in pics

Just curious why do people blur out their license plates in pics? Is it bad to have your plate showing? why?

My truck isnt registered in my name right now so.....

I don't have a problem with my plate visible in pics. Like already mentioned, everyone on the road sees it every day, so what's the difference?

I also find it funny when someone posts a bunch of pics of their vehicle in the same thread and some pics the plate is blurred and others they aren't.

it just some extra security, since the everyone can see your plates when you drive I don't really see what it does. BTW twice I've had people pull my plate number out of a parking lot and said I hit them. The first was really funny because at the time the guy said I hit him the car wasn't even in the country and I had the border crossing sheet to prove it. I do wonder if he got charges out of that one. The second one I immediately took the car to autopac and the adjuster agreed for the damage on the womans car there was no way it came from our car.

I don't do it on my own plate, but If a family's car is in the pic, I blank their plate.

Well if someone wants to get on here and say hey that's a nice truck

Most people have where they live listed in the top right. All they would have to do is go to that city and search for the truck without a plate number

There is only 1 05 Red edge in Springfield Mo with black dc-1's so

So when I get pulled over tomorrow for driving around with carboard over my plates, will the officer accept the excuse that I don't want people stealing my personal information?

Just because you can find out a lot of information through a license plate.

It's for security purposes. There's a lot of nut cases with bad attitudes on the internet. I've even seen a few here on this forum, so why tell the nutcases where you live ??

Going by your zip code and a quick Google search narrows it down to the Lexington area.
