i have my 2 fog lights and 2 lights behind the grill wired up but for some reason the wires get HOT and literslly melt every switch i hook up to them. well i ran then all to one fuse then into a switch which i thought would be fine. i figured if there was a problem it would just break the fuse (which is a 20) but its never broke the fuse. the wires just get really hot then melt the switch. i have no idea why. i had little wires on it it the first 2 times now i put 10 and 12 guage wires on it and it does the same thing. im so stuck on this one

 

ITS CALLED A RELAY... what is with you people thinking your dont need one...

Switches are NOT ment to take the full power of an offroad light.

relays, or a good high amp rated switch...with the cost you might as well just do a relay. Oh and quit butt connecting things, solder is your friend!

And why would you run small wires to off road lights? Minimum 12gauge and even then I'd be worried...but you used 10 and 12gauge?? what?

10-12 gauge wire should not be melting at <20 amps. You have something seriously wrong with this setup. The first thing you need to do is wire it up with a relay like Stone suggested with that picture. Use nothing less than 10-12 gauge wire from the battery to relay and relay to lights. Your lights need a good solid ground as well.

I would be very suspect of how you have it wired up now if you are burning up wires and not blowing fuses. I'd find a friend that knows how to wire this stuff and seek help with it. If you've managed to cause that much burning, you are only moments away from burning the rest of your truck to the ground.
