I have a booster seat in the back of my truck for my 2 year old. It might be a challange to get a new born car seat in the back though.

the safest place for a child is in the middle of the rear seat. I have a single cab and put my daughter in the front seat all the time. As long as you can turn the airbag off it is legal.

Yes. Like, I said, according to the people who test crashes the safest place is in the middle of the back seat but it is legal as long as you can disable the airbag.

I swear I saw this discussed in the glove box manual... and I agree it was the pass seat. the weight should disable the sensor.

When my son was in a rear facing car seat I pushed the seat as far back as it would go even had the air bag off

Now the seat is turned facing forward and I have the seat back as far as it will go with air bag off

It is legal and you wont have any trouble with cops

You can go to your local PD and they will show you the right way to install it in your truck

Yes there is a right and wrong way

check the laws in your state. If I ever need to put a child in the front, airbag is turned off AND the child is facing backwards. I kept the airbag turned off until the child reaches about 80 lbs. I sold a single cab 84 Mazda after my daugher was born because I knew that a car seat and 2 adults would make shifting a little tough. Laws are alittle more strict now than 20+ years ago. Before I sold the Mazda, if it was just my daughter and I , I would turn the car to face the rear of the truck.

my truck came with buckles built into the passenger seat meant for strapping a car seat in it.

^^ Similar rules apply in Canada also.

I don't know about the newer Rangers, but my 01 has the child safety latch attached to the passenger seat. The car seat tether attaches to it and the seat belt is pulled through the rear of the car seat. There is a whole section in the user manuals about it.

In Canada it IS legal for our passenger airbags to be off if:

1 - A child seat is installed on the front seat due to the vehicle NOT having a proper rear seat and mount.

2 - The occupant is under 80lbs (and now a new law - if under 14) and the vehicle does NOT have a rear seat.

3 - The occupant has a medical condition or doctors instructions for it to be so.

On the next page for the US, it's pretty much the same.

A booster seat, I can see...............putting a new born car seat back there, the person should have the child taken away from them.

The ONLY place in our trucks where a child seat should go is where the appropriate hardware is installed......and that's the front passenger seat and having the seat facing the rear.

before we left the hospital with our son they checked the car seat. If not installed right they would have fixed it.

this is one of the main reasons why i sold my ranger... i don't feel comfortable putting my child in the front seat even if the airbag is off however the rangers do have the "latch" system in the front seat for car seats
