What year of a taurus do I need to find. Is it just one fan or both? What else will I need from the taurus to make it work, and where would it be located at in the taurus.

 

Most people use the fan from the 3.8L Taurus, its a dual speed fan. You can tell buy the 3 wire pigtail, it will have one thick black wire, a thicker color wire and another color wire. You'll need a temperature sensor/switch and then the relays and wire to wire it up. Goodysgotacuda did a really good write-up on it.

 

should I just go to autozone or something like that and get a new temp sensor.

Ok I dont like how he has it wired to come on when his ac is off or something like that. Is their anyway to have it come on, on its own??

 

It does come on on its own, he has it so the high speed comes on when his AC is on, gives you colder AC. The Taurus fan has 2 speeds, the low speed is enough for all the time, sometimes the high will kick on if its really hot outside and your idling around town or something because it cools much more. The way his is wired up is about perfect.

 

well I dont run AC, when I bought the truck it didnt have it. kinda sucks cuz I bought it when it was cold out and didnt know about it untill summer. Tryed to refill it but when we did we found a hole. I think the belt came off and the belt tentioner rubed right threw it. Dont feel like spending $375 on an AC hose

 

So just wire the high speed to a relay with a temp switch controlling the ground of the relay. much less complicated than worrying about it with a/c

 

So I would only need two 70 amp relays then? I thought about throwing on a switch too.

 

you'd only need one relay since you'd only be concerned with high speed. the reason why i have three in mine is one for high, one for low, and one to keep the high AND low circuits powered at the same time. (bad for the fan)

I was talking to my gfs uncle and a buddy of mine and I have a cupple more questions.
1. What would be the chances of the fan turning off and my truck over heating?
2. Would I need a 180 thermastat?

 

You can wire it however you want. 10 switches or none. You want both speeds, you need the three relay setup. More work, for no real gain in cooling. Only reason i run both speeds is to compensate for the added heat from the a/c, and i get cooler a/c at low speeds with the higher speed.

Chances of the fan "turning off" are based on the fan you get, new or used. The relays you get, new or used. The circuit protection you use, fuse or circuit breaker (resets itself). And your capability to wire up a circuit that will pull a serious amount of load. Meaning little blue crimp connectors and 14ga wire aren't going to cut it. You need soldered connections and heavy, 10ga wiring to do it properly. As well as the proper relay sockets to maintain the best contact with the terminals, same for the fuse/breaker.

Consider atleast 90% of all new vehicles are running electric fans, and every fwd vehicle practically known to man are electric fan....i think they are tried and true...

And you dont need a 180* stat, recommended to just keep the temp down, but no necessary..

I looked at you wiring diagram and I think ill run it that way. Maybe ill get some colder air when I use the AC. If not on the hotter days ill just use the switch.

 

You won't get much out of an a/c system with a leak in it. Unless you plan on keeping the refrigerant amount correct..How much was that hose? $375 for the hose alone? Or installed?

 

I wanna say just the hose alone. Im not too sure been awhile since it was looked at. Had a 90 day warranty on it but it didnt cover hoses. Its not that big of a deal.

I would still need three if i wanted to add the togle switch, Could I just leave that one not conected or will that fubar things??

 

Low Speed based on engine temp + a/c over-ride for high speed = 3 relays
low speed based on engine temp + high speed over-ride via switch = 3 relays
low, OR high speed only based on engine temp = 1 relay
