Ever "downgrade" your grille?

Rock cracked my chrome "XLT" grille and I'm considering going back with the plain plastic grille for a cleaner more subtle look up front. Here's a photo taken before chrome grille got damaged:

Think the XL grille would look okay, or a stupid thing to do? Thanks.

[And those wheels are chrome, just dirty.]

You could go with an XLT grill like mine, Chrome surround with a black center. But I wouldn't go all black. I think it would look tacky on your truck.

I like the chrome surround look better than full chrome - what year is it? [Edit: I'm assuming it's a stock '05 grille]

IMO that one would look funny on your truck... It's a lot goin on, on just the grille, not enough goin on with the rest of the truck if that makes sense...

in short, no.

in long, if you wanna upgrade the entire front end to the newer body style, yes. With enough work, anything will fit.

That's way hot. Go for that. Looks 10x better than the full chrome.

You worded your question wrong... they don't like chrome here so getting a non-chrome grille would be an upgrade... lol... but I've considered some form of honecomb in exchange for my grille

I normally don't say this on a dark truck becuase I like contrast, but your front valence is flat black I say go black on the grill too, or Color match the truck. It looks tacky now becuase you have three differant colors going on up front so your grille didn't need to be crome anyways.

I dont know how bad the rock chipped the grille but have you considered painting it yourself ? I painted mine Flat black in one afternoon with great results but then again my truck was white and I was going for no chrome look. I think you should really look into color matching it to your truck. If its just chipped the crhome you could probally fix it when you prepped for paint and nobody would ever know.

If I were to replace it I'd get the STX grill. Best way to go.

Since I'm going for a clean/bland look up front I think any chrome would be too much. I know a manager of a part store that has 4 or 5 new XL Ranger delivery trucks, so he said he'd trade me a grille for mine - if I don't like what I see I can always trade back. Only thing I have against color matching is the paint chips that would probably start showing up next week and adding the 3m paint film like I've got on the hood and fenders would just be something else to worry about, when just swapping out an XL grille would take 5 minutes and I'd be done. Thanks to all for the advice.
