anyways, is it pretty easy on these motors? and anybody run synthetic? im thinking about switching over...

 

all the 06 up run synthetic from ford, least mine does...

 

I run Amsoil. It works well with my truck. The changing process is easy. Id say the hardest part might me getting the old filter off. Make sure you lube the gasket with fresh oil and only hand tighten the filter on there.

its easy, i dont even need to jack up the truck to do it. lol ive run Mobil 1 full synthetic in mine since ive owned it

Please dont start the synthetic/conventional debate.

Its really easy you wont even need a lift. A tip for when removing the oil filter is to wrap a towel around your wrist so that oil doesnt run down your arm.

 

yeah its easy, i dont jack mine up either, just pull it up on the carport and get to work, takes about ten minutes...i run the Motorcraft Sythetic Blend 5w-30 in mine (it says to run Mootcraft 5w-30 in my manual)...so ithink i got the right stuff, it didnt specify which one though...

i get the Motorcraft that all advance and walmarts carry, is this fine...

 

im body lifted as well, should help. and i was really just curious about the oil. i've changed the oil on my car before lol. now thats a *****.

 

yeah I use that Motorcraft 5w-30 stuff too.

Pretty much any fresh oil, I use Synthetic. In the 4L it takes 15 minutes tops to do a oil change. Filters a little trickey between the frame and exhaust but its pretty easy as long as your truck isnt really hot.

 

Negative on that helping...Did you get it changed yet. It's a very easy task on these trucks.

 

I USED to be a synthetic oil fan, but after much research, I have determined that there is no advantage. In fact, even if the synthetic does last longer than regular, the filters should still be replaced at around 4000 miles, so why not change the oil at the same time?

Now I use whatever 5W-30 is cheapest at Autozone or Pep Boys...

Cut the top off a 2 liter soda bottle. Loosen the filter, then spin it off with the cut off bottle around the filter. Catches all the oil and the filter, no mess.

 

Easy as pie. Except I always end up with bare metal on the torsion bar brackets or motor mount bracket or....idk what bracket it is, but it's directly below the oil filter....oil hits it, eats the paint. lol. I dont care though. Next oil change eats the rust so it's always clean. lol.

to the OP, yeah verything goes smooth till its time to get the oil filter off, then oil goes everywhere if ur not careful...

 

I still change my oil and filter every 4-5000 Km's with synthetic. It Helps ALOT when its -40 out to be running synthetic.

 

OHH!! That oil catcher bracket on the frame, believe it's the rear lower a-arm bushing bracket. I think. Still have yet to look at the truck to confirm. lol.



I've always used K&N oil filters....they've got like a 7/8" nut on the bottom. Makes very easy use of loosening the filter. HP-2010 is the part number.

 

Dont mean to thread jack but is there any harm running 10w30 instead of 5 ive been doing it for the last 2 years.
