i'm going to contact this person to hopefully purchase his ranger. i've never owned a 4x4 and i need your help. what should i ask and what should i look for.

What's up with the XL bumper, XL wheels, and XL/XLT hood?

 

it doesn't look like a 4x4.

 

Has and Edge grill as well.

 

would you say its been wrecked before then? thats my guess. and the guy bought what ever fit back on there.

 

That or the owner gave it a face lift. But if your going that far why not do the valence too? It looks high enough to be a XL 4x4, but something is fishy here.

I'd run the VIN.

 

i wouldnt buy that man, that is the ugliest ranger (if its even 4x4!)...it has all the XL crap on it with a honeycomb grille! you should be able to find an 01 4x4 for a decent price, but that truck is hideous...

it could have been wreked (ive never seen that new of a 4x4 with all XL stuff on it unless it was ordered like that! HIDEOUS

 

They made Fleet 4x4 XL's I just want to know why the face change? And $5800 is a waste for a strip model 4x4 with a questionable history.

It was a fleet and it is 4x4. I'm gonna call him and make sure it a clean truck

I see Rangers (4x4) sell for $6000-$7000 all the time. They were all XLTs, or Edge's too.

Looks 2wd at first with no fogs and can't see a powerdome but I see tow hooks. I think that is a little pricey for no power options, sticky plastic interior probably and very very plain looks. How many miles? Chances are it was a fleet vehicle so it had decent maintenance but drivers who drove it like they didn't own it.

 

It is 4x4 and has 80k on the engine

 

Too bad I'm not quite ready to sell or else you could have mine for $5000.

It's gotta be a XL 4x4...and YES they do exist. The truck has everything that screams XL to me except the grille. And yes, he definately could have swapped it in. Good thing about the Xcab XL's, is that they have cloth seats compared to the vinyl covered PLYWOOD That comes in the regcabs. lol. Doesn't have 'sticky plastic interior' because it's an Xcab, otherwise, it's the same as a non-power optioned Edge(door panels) with lower quality vinyl flooring..

IMO....for about a grand more, you get an XLT 4x4 with about 115k on the clock. How many does this one have? I actually kind of like the fact that this one has a 3.0(pushrods FTW) but what I dont like and what you may not like either...is that its a 2dr.

The truck is a good starter with TONS of potential to upgrade it to XLT or even FX4 status. Get seats, xlt manual door panels, bumper, etc. Get it down to $4500 and buy it.

 

If you have the 4.0 in your current truck you will not like the 3.0...
