new toy for cheap, and need advice on bumper.

hey everyone, picked up this jewel today. its a Ramsey 8K winch, works flawlessly. picked it up for 200 bux. now that i have that, i need advice on making a custom bumper for the front of my truck. i have the general idea on what i want, just want some opinions/advice from people who have made them before.

make it mount to a male receiver hitch and incorporate a hitch into your front bumper so you can use it on the rear if you ever need to. thats what i did and its great for piece of mind when wheeling alone.

i thought about that, but i really want it mounted perm. up front. i will however incorporate a 2" reciever in front so i can hook up to a trailer and pull something up if i need to. but... do you have some close ups of your bumper/winch design?

man i stumbled on this at the right time. the guy wanted 400 for it, which i would've probably gave him, but the remote connection needs to be cleaned/repaired, because you have to push up on the connector to make it work, so i just told him "i'll give you 200 cash right now" and he said "load it up". lol just luck i guess.

edit: forgot, the guy told me it came off a tow truck that the airport had for emergencies, and it was barely used. you can tell by the fairlead that it wasn't used much at all. plus, the cable was replaced less than a year before it was sold. ill see how it does, but one day i want a synthetic rope on it.

is it a 12v or a 24v? my dad had the same winch and he had to daisy chain 2 batts together to get it to work to its full potential

it's a 12v. i only ran it off my truck with jumper cables, but it moves pretty quick. i was impressed.

whats up andy. yall still go to the creek? i'd like to make it up there one weekend and go wheelin with yall.

I took my front bumper off today, to look. i think i am gonna make a hidden mount type thing. make it like a cross member all the way at the front of the frame, and the fairlead will just show between the tow hooks.

think i finally decided on exactly what to do. i'm gonna make a mount like the warn semi-hidden mount, and add a 2" receiver under it. here's an example of it on a truck with a body lift like mine. well can't get the pic to work right now.

Kyle built it and drew the parts up.. I loaded it in the computer at school and CNC cut all those pieces out for him! Front and rear bumpers! haha

I like your plan though man... Keep it simple, it's easiest that way.
