Cash for Clunkers

I was reading on yahoo that 6 out of 10 cars traded in on the cash for clunkers program were Ford Explorers model years 94-99 I just thought I'd pass that info on to you guys.

I saw that too. I thought it was pretty funny.

Let the complaining begin. "Oh that is messed up. I have been looking for an Exploder." Blah blah.

Actually I have been. 95+ explorers and rangers.

If you don't like the complaining, then don't read. Unless you just like to log on to anger yourself and start arguments.

I don't anger myself. I just think its funny when something like this pops up and people say I have been looking for something like that. In reality they are just looking and never actually buy one though.

lol. True story. You could take anything off the market and everyone will say "Oh man I was going to buy one of those!"

Just so happens that I'm looking to buy an explorer or ranger in that year range, haha. But I can't seem to find anything here in decent condition. Seems no one around here tries to take care of their vehicles like I do.

Seriously. I don't get these people that have actual holes in the body of their cars or paint damage or parts that are hanging by one screw. Its so easy to maintain a car.

What i hate are the people that have brand new cars and trash them... I worked on a challenger the other day that was 8 months old. And the front end was all smashed up. cigarette burns all over the interior and ashes and food everywhere and it smelled horrible.

i had to do a 94 explorer at work monday. that thing put up a fight trying to disable the engine. it would lock up, and then it had a hard start and fired right back up.

Hah! I worked at a company at an airport for a few years cleaning/fueling business jets for a bunch of big name corporations (Nike, Columbia, Gap, Yahoo etc).
When the passengers came out, they drove to the plane, we unloaded bags and parked cars. The owners of Columbia Sportswear always had brand new Mercedes, and his wife's new cars were always absolutely disgusting. Food all over the place, literally chunks of brownies all over, half eaten cookies, spilled drinks, lmao.
People are freakin gross.

Something I saw today while I was working. I saw a 96 Ranger in a dumpster. I couldn't believe it myself. The back end of the Ranger was sticking out over the side of the dumpster. This was @ a used car lot with a sticker that read 1996 on the windshield.

no offense if anyone has one, but the 94-99 explorer is (IMO) the biggest piece of s**t Ford ever made next to the older Taurus's.

So you know that the 95-01 Explorer is the same thing as a ranger, right?
My mom owned a 97 explorer, stepdad had a 98, and my wife had a 97. They were all great to us. We sold ours with 120k miles or so, everything worked on it and it ran great. A few minor things like intake manifold gaskets and EGR stuff, just the normal things.
The main reason they have sort of a bad rap is due to the fact that there are SO many that were sold. So many out there also means they were cheap used, and cheap people bought them and they didn't take care of them.

What about them do you think makes them a big POS?

i was thinkin of swappin the seats out of my truck for the ones in the explorer but they were worse then mine.

Honestly the biggest shame is just that there is so much good stuff out there. Wheels and tires for example that could have been used on tons of different cars, would bring good money at the junkyards. Well and a million other things I guess. Good old wasteful America.

I bet all the jeep guys that love the Explorer 8.8's are not happy either, lol.
