I picked up some skid plates at a Junkyard, I'm going to grind them down and repaint them, but I'm not sure what I should use. I was thinking just black paint but if I go on to some trails it will just get scratched up and I'll have to keep repainting it, So I was thinking of using some roll on bedliner would that work fine? Which would be better or is there something else I should try?

I would just throw some flat black on there and forget about it. They're skid plates and they're not meant to look beautiful forever.....Not like people see that much of them anyways.

Valspar Tractor enmal from Tractor Supply holds up good on skid plates and frames. Put it on with a brush and since its oil based it levels it self.

 

I would use the bed liner like you said.

 

Flat black. Cheap and easy to touch up if you feel it is needed.

 

i'd sandblast them down and primer them up. then find a shop that does spray in bed liners and have them hit them when they clean out the gun. i bet they wouldn't charge much for those 2 pieces.

 

Spray on bedliner isnt going to hold up any better then regular paint would. When you scrap if with the trucks weight its going to come off. Just grab a can of flat black.

I think i might just try Flat Black and see how that goes, if after a while i get board I'll look into the Bedliner in a can. Thanks for the help Guys.

 

I would spray some Rockguard on them just so it won't chip when your driving on a gravel road or something.

 

lol.....I just hot-water pressure washed mine, then sprayed on my trusty John Deere Blitz Black Equipment Enamel.

 

Is that a brush paint or a spray paint? I'm guessing you can find that at any John deere dealer

 

Spray....either rattle can or out of a gun. I absolutely friggin' love the stuff. Been using it for years. My headlights, corners, honeycomb grille, rear hitch, front hitch, rear axle, front frame crossmember, front suspension and crossmembers, tcase and fuel tank skid, radio bezel and now my bodylift components are painted with it. Shoot....we painted my little brothers kitcar with it. Basically, anything that needs black paint, gets Blitz Black in my book.

 

whats so unique about it? looks like basic flat black to me!

 

hey now....she gets offended when you call her flat...she has a shene to her! Blitz Black is cheap and has a reputation of being extremely durable. On top of that, the semi-satin shene is really good looking....sometimes called 'hot rod black'. She's so special, she even has a website dedicated to her....

Hmmm, I might have to try this stuff, I wish the John deere dealership wasn't so far away, oh well it will be worth it.

i use VHT epoxy paint and it seems to hold up pretty well on my skid plate
