Last summer I bought a Dakine tailgate pad for carrying bikes around in the back of my truck. It takes no time at all to load them, they barely move when slung over it even without any straps. I use straps to keep them from moving out towards the sides where the exhaust will melt the tire (already happened once) They also have two large zippered pockets on the inside for carrying gear and a velcro flap to access the tailgate handle. Saves allot of room in the bed for other gear. They come in two sizes, small and large. The small fits the fleetside rangers almost perfectly, does get pinched a little in the corners but works fine.

When I rode BMX we did that in my truck... sans the pad

Looks cool, but expensive.

I just throw a towel over the tailgate then a tractor tire tube and lap the blanket over the tube. Then secure the bike(s) to the stake pocket and eachother if more than one. I'm a bit of a hard *** when it comes to protecting paint from damage though.

that is different, i'm not a fan of stuff hanging over like that so i'd pass on it. i like the yakima one that clamps to the bed rail it takes up more space but i've got room behind the seats for stuff and i've been able to fit a good amount back there

I agree, i am in need of new rubber, i was going to get some new wheels and tires this year but it got put on the back burner. Those michellins are almost burned out so i am going to finish killing them and get some good snow tires on those wheels in time for winter and keep them for a winter set, then get some new wheels in the spring.

Thanks for all the comments on the truck! She will look prettier in a few weeks when i finally get a new front valance. I feel like one of those models that will only take pictures of one side of their face because it is nicer, I am that way with the back of my truck! haha

 

I only put this on if i need to carry more than one bike. More than one bike in the bed and they are half on top of one another and get banged up. With this you can easily fit 4-5 bikes, they will barely touch each other and you will still have half your bed left. They are surprisingly secure on there they pinch right over that pad and barely move. If you throw a strap over the top tubes and pull them down into it a bit more the are locked right in there. The only thing that makes me nervous it the damage that will be done if someone rear-ends me.

 

You could always paint your wheels instead of buying news one. Just something to save some money. Good lookin truck by the way.

 

I think i am going to paint them black, they are getting a little scratched up. And i just saw a thread with these factory wheels painted black and i am sold! But i still want something wider with a little more offset so they stick out a little past the fenders.
