So a local group is going trail riding in a few weeks. And i'll be honest i dont know what to take! I mean i know some stuff but i got no where to put it as of right now, going to try and find a cheap , plastic tool box or something to put it all in.

any suggestions will be great

it will be a combo of mud,grass and dirt and some smaller rocks

Honestly, if it's just a short trail ride, the only thing I would take is a first aid kit and a strap. Especially if it's easy stuff. Maybe a jack too just in case of a flat.

 

tow/****** straps, possible spare tire, make sure u have tow points, maybe a blanket or sumthing to put over strap (just in case it wants to break), make sure u have plenty to drink, maybe a hi-lift... theres countless things u should/could take on a trail ride...

ooh extra parts, misc tools.

im sure others will chime in also..

 

it will be an all day thing if that helps, leaving at 7am and going till w/e we get home.

my biggest problem with the ranger is lack of room for stuff.....it sucks haha

 

get your self a decent metal tool box for the bed.. i was always able to fit my stuff in to one of them

If it isnt going to be too hardcore, then I would take a ****** strap (not a tow strap, there is a difference) a couple of D-rings, and a shovel. Make sure you have tow hooks on the front and a hitch on the rear. Don't use your bumper ever. Oooo, you can't forget beer. Its a necessity, and can be used as currency in the 4x4 world lol. But don't drink and drive.

The most important advice I can give you now, is start putting away money to lift your truck. You are going to get addicted, its inevitable.

 

definitely straps, first aid kit, make sure you have a full tank of fuel, take extra fuel (once i hit the hills my truck likes the gas), tools, ratchet/socket or a lug nut wrench in case of a tire change, plenty of beverage's (ur choice of that one, i prefer beer, but whatever floats ur boat, haha) you could also bring a bicycle pump if you air down your tires once you hit the dirt. ummm...what ever... food bring something to naw on...

did someone really just say a bicycle pump if you air down? how does that work? about 30 minutes for 5 psi in a little 30" tire? lol

there's really no need to pack your garage for a pretty stock truck on a mild trail ride.. Bring a camera. unless its hours from home then of course pack all your **** up.. including the stuff that shouldn't break. I packed alllll my spare parts and alllll my tools for katemcy, except the steering parts i had cause that wasn't gonna break right? HA.. yea it was the only thing that broke.




edit.. and a cooler to keep your beer cold. warm beer tastes like ****.
we tend to leave all non alcoholic beverages at camp so we can carry more beer

 

i'd suggest this too. untill you can afford that if the wheeling isn't too hardcore. get a rubbermade bin and some bungees or ratchet straps for the tie downs in the bed.

 

haha ya sorry i guess it would be a while pumping a tire up... im used to lawnmower racing and it takes like 1 minute to pump up a tire on a lawnmower. yup the more beer you bring the better the wheeling gets!!!!

 

Extra fuel,strap, D- rings, jack, spare tire, the right tools to change tire, first aid kit, flashlight, and a knife and or/saw, you never know if your gonna slide into brush. Food, water, and most importantly BEER and some good tunes. Oh and have fun

 

I can't believe nobody has mentioned one of the most important things available to us offroaders... TP! Bring toilet paper, because you never know when you're gonna need it, and because leaves tend to chafe.

Being into the jeep thing for almost 15 years, I completly understand the space issue. Don't pack spare tools in a box, spend an extra dollar or two for the durable tool bags, they pack away much easier than an awkard box. Flashlight and batteries, bug spray.... Take your spare out and check the pressure before you leave. Water.

 

Only things I can think of not mentioned would be a good pair of HD leather gloves, jug of water for refilling radiator, washer reserv. or just rinsing mud off your hands and a tire plug kit.

 

o0 how did we all forget duct tape??
