looking at an 07 ranger fx4 level II
i realize that i have not posted almost anything on here, and i hate to be the guy who's first post is a problem, but i do need help, and in return, i promise to share my infinite knowledge of the workings of ford vehicles i have had (see my list of previous vehicles in the intro section)
so i have been looking at several trucks, all pointing me towards an 07 ranger fx4 level II the one I am looking at right now is blue over grey, manual transmission, decent tires, 60,000 km (roughly 37 500 miles) they are asking 17 000$ (canadian) for it, originally when they did the inspection on it (for sale at a ford dealership) they told me that the only thing that didn't check out was 2 lights had to be replaced (i know, big deal) they ARE putting a new windshield into it, doing a full cut polish, have a contractor coming in to take out all the rock chips, and polish out all the minor scratches. the bed is pretty scratched up, so they offered to throw in an over the rail spray in liner (one bed side rail, the plastic is missing) the truck will come with a 1 year factory powertrain warranty
the truck is pretty cherry, nothing really noticeable, engine is clean, runs well, the only thing i noticed is that when you are at low RPM, roughly 1500-3000, i noticed that the clutch and shifter both have a ticking in it, very solid feeling, metal on metal almost... not something you would notice for tires i mean. it is speed relative, the manager took the truck for a drive, and he did not notice it, but i definitely did, does this sound like a problem anyone of you have noticed, or might know what it is?

wow this is weird. My dad just bought an 07 fx4 today with 50k kms from Saskatchewan. 17,000 does sound a bit high for not being perfect. We got ours for considerably less than that
. I'd try for another grand off atleast. As for the transmission ticking I have no idea my friend.

What you probably are hearing is the meshing of the transmission gears. The sound is normal. Level II trucks with manual transmission have a really nice leather boot....but it doesn't hide all the transmission noises like the standard boot does.
$17,000 canadian(about $15,500 US) does sound a bit high for 60km on the clock. In the states, that truck would be in about the $13,000 range(14,000 CAN).

The ticking that I'm feeling isn't the same as the vibration I have felt on any other standard vehicle I have ever driven, the only thing I can compare it to is the to bearing on my dads 96 f150 was put in wrong, and felt similar, but I didn't feel it in the clutch ever
the prices are roughly the same across the board here, wa looking at an 06 with 40000 for 16900 and an 07 with 100000 for 15900 firm

i dont know prices that well, but Fx4 LVL II's in canada new are $36,000, ive seen some 07/08 sports with the same mileage (2wd) going for that price, just check out auto trader and see what people are offering there, or call a dealership and ask if they can give you the blackbook value for the truck

yeah, i won't pay 17,000, i'll walk from it at that point, the body is pretty awesome, no noticable interior wear or damage, i managed to get them to throw in a warranty on the clutch and t.o. bearing, not sure how long for yet, i am willing to pay 16,000 for this one

lol, hell ya! that's nothing though... i'll grab some pics of my motor today, it's BAD take a look at the thread i was talking about above, there is pics of the truck sitting on the side of the road behind the S/T, you can't see the paint on the drivers side at all... i'm going to wash it today
You know, Im up in Grande Prairie, and I payed 15K for my 04 FX4 Lvl II. It had some minor interior nicks and what not, 60K on it, but overall It caught my eye when I saw it. Black and chrome is great.
That said, Im looking at some of the new ones, but im not sure if I really like them, the level II's I mean, I need to see if they even come close to what the 04 I have has.
Congrats on the new ranger though.

Not right away, just something about a brand new interior you know?
That said, I would like to find a quad cab, four doors would be great, and if I would find one in manual.
