Off-Road Pkg shock question
Off-Road Pkg shock question
OK so I am getting ready to order all new shocks(F&R) and probably an AAL or Shackle for the rear to get it back closer to stock stance. There doesn't seem to be any difference in shocks for all 4wd Rangers but don't the Off-road and FX sit a couple inches higher? Hence the rear blocks etc. Either way with mine having the rear blocks, adding another 2" to that in the rear then the Tbar cranked up what I am guessing is 2-3 inches since it sits higher in the front than rear what should I order..Probably going to go with Rancho or Skyjacker if that helps. I was thinking maybe +4 rear and +2 front or should I go +2 all the way around?
u need to keep the original length shocks up front other wise u will over extend ur cv's...or do limit straps cause ur front shocks are the limiting factor on ur front suspension...

OK but what about the difference in Pkg ride height and what about the rear?
Kinda funny when I had my GMC and had the new t keys put in it topped out the stock shocks and required +2 and they never mentioned anything about it over extending the CV's nor did I ever have a problem and I wheeled it pretty good. Difference in trucks I guess and/or maybe the way they mount. I understand the idea guess I need to read up on it some more.

Well have done some research on my own and the rears on my truck are original motorcraft sitting static they are right at 20" and collapsed they would be aprox. 15". I didn't feel like taking them off the truck so I just measured the shaft sticking out and subtracted from the 20. Most of the stock replacment shocks I have been able to get specs on were 13/18" which deffinately will not work for mine. Only the Rough Country seem to be right on with collapsed length of 15.67 and ext. 26.07. Even Superlift list theirs as 14 and 23.....WTF why should buying shocks be such a PITA???? Anyone else run into this with a FX or OffRoad?
rule of thumb is you can go 2" up or 2" lower on your stock shocks. Nobody has reported running taller shocks up front because of the torsion crank. Plus those shocks don't exist for the front either.
All 98+ 4x4's sit the same with the exception of 08+'s which are lowered from the factory compared to 07 and older models. A shock designed for a 98-07 4x4 will be just fine with your truck. Maybe a little longer for the rear though. Up front you really have no options for longer, taller shocks other than a Superlift shock that comes iwth their 4" lift kit, which will be far too long for your truck.
