Can it work?

Ok so I searched for another thread like this but didnt find anything. So sorry if there is already a thread like this.

Ive got an 87' with the 2.9L I know thre are a few people who like to shoehorn a 5.0 in there but im a big fan of the 4.0

I want to replace my stock 2.9 with the 4.0 from a newer ranger. Is it possible? And if so what kind of cost am I looking at? Any one done this yet? And would the trans and transfer need swaped too?

IMO that's not a bad way to go!

The 4.0L OHC is a good little motor and can make some decent power with just bolt ons and a tune.

I'm not sure how easily it'll bolt in. But I'd think you wouldn't have to modify or fabricate much at all.

You can do it. Just find a donor vehicle because you are going to need engine, tranny, wiring, computer and various other things.
