Hey guys, I'm in the need of 4 new tires. I came across BFGoodrich M/T KMs for a decent price for my 05 Ranger. I was wondering if anyone has used these before. I know these will work for any off road purposes, but I was wondering what kind of mileage people are getting out of them, and how they work in the snow.

I am not a tire buff or anything, but I noticed these tires at a decent price (less than the A/T's).

I live now in Binghamton, NY but I travel up north alot. I often have to take trips in really crappy Upstate NY weather, In alot of snow. I heard from some people tires like these will be a death sent in the snow, is this a myth or truth?

Hurry :) I need to get tires in 1 week, before inspection is up :(

 

they are great tires. getting phased out by the km2s, which i am running.

i dont have much experience with snow, but i would imagine they would do good in deep snow, but suck on snowy roads. they are pretty sketchy in the rain.

my brother has been running 33" kms on his ranger, with 3 liter and 4.10 gears i think he gets around 17-18 mpg


they are awesome tires though. defintiely one of the most popular offroad tires i have ever seen

 

hey thanks for the quick response, when I say mileage... I meant tread wear mileage... like how long shoudl they last? 20k miles...60k miles...? figure I shouild clarify that !

 

oh yeah dude, i have i have no idea about the tread life. id defintiely expect more than 20 though

 

tread life on the old k/m's is great... more than 30 if you keep rotating and your truck aligned. sadly, they are a death sentence in the snow. you'd be better off running drag slicks and keeping it in 2wheel drive. terrible tire that wont grip at all. i had firestone destination m/t's and never had to use 4wheel in the snow except for pulling people out. aaron on the other hand who had the k/m's couldnt take his out of 4wheel for fear of death.

 

When i originally lifts my truck I had the 32 x 11.50r15 BFG M/T..i had them for 53k miles... nuff said

 

The poor snow travel I guess will not work for me. I noticed these tires on Ebay in the 255/70/R16 size... they were like 585 or 545 or something + shipping which totaled it to like $650.. I tried to just find them again and I can't.

I am looking for a decent set of tires.. I want something that is good off road, and will work well on road at well. I was just looking at these since they for some reason were cheaper than the A/T's... plus they looked quite nice. I want something more aggressive than the RT/S's that came with the truck. when i hit snow, they pack up and its made me do 360's on the highway a few times now.

I am not looking to drop tons of money on a set of tires, and I would by gently used tires if they existed. What other size tires could go on my truck? It has the stock suspension and i am not looking to mess around lifting it or anything. I need a new set of tires since my two front tires are all sorts of cupped and cracked, plus im not daring enough to drive in the winter with 4/32 on one edge and just over 2/32 on the other edge of the tire.

I've heard cooper tires are good, and today I looked at some general grabber AT2's they looked alright, but I have never really heard of general tires before. I kind of want something that looks sort of cool as well, haha maybe i'm just asking for too much :)

 

40k+ is normally for the original KMs.

 

dude everyone says mud tires do terrible in snow i haven't personally run the km2s but the mud rovers have a very similar tread pattern to the old bfg m/ts and my mud rovers do great in the snow i loved them last winter and that was with half tread

 

This is a great thread. Didn't know they KM2's would be horrible on snowy roads. May make me change my mind on the buy.

 

any m/t is bad in snow on pavement, just stick 2 wheels on the sholder and your set! haha or drive in the ditch when it snows

 

I am at around 30k still got plenty of tread left. I like them. however I think next tires I get will either be the Km2's or the goodyear duratrac m/t. plenty of little sips in the goodyears for rainy/snowy conditions.

 

I sealed the deal, I guess I will have good looking tires to die in my truck during the winter at least :).

I got a set of four 255/70/R16's in the BFG M/T KM's for 600 even shipped. I just could not say no.

 

good deal, there great in deep snow its just the light stuff that gets you into trouble. unless you like to drift! lol

 

Yeah, well my RT/S's didn't do any bit good in snow. Since they never really plow around here, maybe these will dig into the slop... or send me off the road to total my truck... either of which I could not complain with... a new truck would be nice :).

 

OP is referring to just the original KM not the KM2...

ive heard fairly good things about the km2 in snow.. one guy said he uses it on his F250 snowplow and they work great...
