Perfect truck for a 5.0 swap. The 5.0 will basicly bolt right in. Plus here's an advantage you have. The last year the good old 5.0 rolled off the assembly line was 2001. Depending on your state's regs regarding engine swaps has to be the same year or newer engine. They only go back about 10 years on the emissions laws so you can get away with murder basicly. All you need is an F150 4X4 of the same year that had a V8 in it and you're good to go. The F150, 5.0 Mustangs, Explorer's and Ford Rangers used alot of the same parts like rear end housing, axles etc. I hope this was of some help to you.

yes its helpful as far as emission laws OBD2 cars they just plug into the port and and see if readiness tests passed and to see if theres any DTC'S i was gonna go with a 97 exploer in hopes the wiring, sensor plugs and ecm plugs etc were the same to avoid changing the engine harness ,,, to sum it up was hoping to get the engine and ecm from same yr explorer .... i also am hoping my trans will bolt up to 5.0 thanks for your input

No problem my man. That should make it alot easier and faster for you and above all else alot cheaper too. here's a couple of links that have kits up to the year 1997. Summit Racing - High Performance Car and Truck Parts l 800-230-3030 they carry alot of engine swap kits headers etc. www.v8ranger.com this includes a list of parts and some links to other sites in there as well as a photo of a Prostreet Ranger by Tim Sockness which was featured on this months Carcraft magazine (the only reason I bought the magazine). and just for kicks try this link: www.BigBlockRanger.com .

That sucks about having to pass off a 98 explorer but I understand it myself. I passed on doing a V8 in my ranger due to a financial situation beyond my control. if you went to his car domain you should be able to hear that 460 running. I too was impressed. He had done alot of work and I don't even want to know what he had to chop out of it and how much massaging he had to do to even get it to fit that well. That engine fitting in there the way it does was really kool.
