the only wierd things is they wont work at all unless at least the parking lights are on. I know the front gets power when the lights are off, to blink but those wont..huh? IDK still cool as he double hokey sticks anyways..lol.

I haven't done the mod, and I'm going from memory here on what I remember reading about it a couple years ago, but I'm guessing that you've done the blinking side marker light mod...

If so, (and, again I'm working from memory here), the side marker lights get their power (and ground) differently depending on whether your parking lights are on/off, and whether the turn signal or 4-way flashers are on/off. This is inconsequential to the incadascent bulb in the side marker lights, but not inconsequential to the components in the mirror-mounted LED indicators -- a regular bulb will light no matter which lead is hot (+) or ground (-)... the LEDs will ONLY light if the hot and ground are connected to the proper points.

If you wired your LEDs up basically in parallel with the side marker lights, then they would only operate when the parking lights are on -- when the parking lights are off, the side markers flash "opposite" of the turn signal/4-way because the power/ground connections are reversed in that situation. The LEDs will not operate when the power/ground connections are reversed.

To determine if this is, in fact, what's going on with your setup, put a digital voltmeter on the two leads going to one of the LED mirror lights, and then turn your 4-ways or turn signal on. Put the red (+) lead of the voltmeter on the positive wire of the LED array, and the negative (-) lead of the voltmeter on the negative wire of the LED array. If you see the meter reading "-13.8 v" and "0.00 v" during testing, then that's the explanation. The LED array is expecting to see "+13.8 v" and "0.00 v". Now, turn the parking lights on and repeat the test. Does the polarity change?

SIDE NOTE: there are LEDs on the market that will work in both directions (essentially, they're two LEDs in opposite polarity; driven in one direction, one LED lights, driven in the other direction the other LED lights). it'd be cool to use something like this in your particular setup, where the "marker light" LEDs would be orange and the "turn signal/4-way" LEDs would be bright yellow. That'd be cool...

LOL...cool!! I think thats how i wired because what you described it does flashes opposite of side marker blinker modded light. I will do this when i get home. So is there a way to have it work all the time with constant and blink with lights on and blink with lights off? OR does it have to be one way or the other?

Well, without changing the wiring on your truck (that is, not undoing the side marker light mod, etc) there are two ways to fix it so that the LEDs will be on along with your parking lights, and will also blink with your turn signals/4-way flashers:

1. Obtain an LED array for the mirror that is wired like I laid out in the "SIDE NOTE" in my previous post.

2. Get a 12 V DPDT (double-pole, double-throw) relay and use that to switch the polarity of the leads going to the LED array on the mirror. You'd need one such relay wired up for each side of the truck.

That is what I'm trying to say. They're doing exactly what they should be doing, because of how you've wired them up.

I've added a picture to my previous post, showing how to wire the 12V DPDT relay, if you want to try that route. You'll need one relay for each side of the truck.

Did you read any of the last few exchanges in this thread? It sounds like you're experiencing the same thing he is, so perhaps it's for the same reason? (...and would benefit from the same solution?)
