finally got my bumper on
so i spend the day putting my bumper on.. it still needs paint and i want to add 2 more bolts to hold it on.. there's only 2 bolts holding it right now and i went to stand on it and get a picture and it slipped.. i eye balled the height.. enough talk here;s the pics.
bumper and mesh tailgate just sitting there.. i used 2 tires a piece of 2x4 box tubing and a 4x4 square stock to hold it at the right height.
bumper is not bolted thats why its crooked.
used the level.
this is after it was bolted, cant get any better than this!!!
mounted
side shot
so what do you guy's think?? still gotta paint it.

Not bad.
A tip. NEVER use a level on a vehicle. I don't care how level it seems to sit, it will never be level. I can see that the left side of your bumper sits just a little lower then the right, and while it's not that noticeable, it's still there. You can't beat a good old trusty tape measure and measuring off the truck.

^^^ i see that now... when dad moves his truck i will back mine into the shop on some level ground and level it out... my dad built this bumper a few years ago for my s10.
course i still have to cut off the old mounts because the frame on a ranger is a few inches narrower than an s10.. not sure if i want to cap the ends or not.. i'd like to leave it the way it is.
and also i want it that wide, im tired of replacing taillights because i accidently back into a tree or something so the bumper will "protect" the end of the bedside. now i can mount my tailgate and hit them with some paint.

also cleaned up the wheels abit.... the bumper is on there enough to make it legal to drive on the road (which is what i was trying to do, i wanna get this thing on the road soon once i get a job)..
next is the tailgate then buy another passenger taillight. the driver's side is still good.

only once.. haha.. winter 2008/09 i slid into a chain link pole putting a huge dent in the side (see one of my threads) and it busted the taillight.. then accidently backed into a tree in a friends yard.. aka not paying attention behind me.. that pushed the passenger side of the stock rear bumper into the end of the bedside, busting the brand new taillight. haha i can drive fine.. its just sometimes i look out my mirrors when backing up.

sure can. it will be mesh. its 1/8 inch thick 2x2 steel angle iron. all the ends were cut at a 45*degree angle and welded to make a 90* angle. then i will add 3 cross pieces in the middle (the gate cut into 1/3's) that will be bolted in and some expanded metal will be sandwiched between the cross pieces and the outside frame. it will be bolted in to make it "removable" so if the mesh gets beat to hell i can cut a new piece and slap it in..then i added a 1" wide strip to each end on the outside to hide the latches and stuff.. it swings open just like a stock tail gate does, i found some pipe that just fits over the things on the truck and cut a piece like 3/4" and welded it onto the tailgate, the passenger side i cut a slot in it so i can "slip" it into place just like a stock gate.
its got some weight to it but i dont really care.. the reason why i built one is because i dont want to beat on the stock tailgate because its still in really good shape and anyone that owns a truck knows about the tailgates bow-ing.. well this one wont.. haha
the tailgate isnt done yet. but its getting there.. im going to mount the cables tomorrow now that i have my bumper on.. i took the cables from my stock tailgate and im using those.
i made a thread on the tailgate with pictures.

yes that will be next.. i was too lazy to walk into the house to grab the tape measure.. haha.. but i will measure it on more level ground before i add the other 2 bolts.. its not done yet, just wanted to get it on the truck... geez it took me like an hour to get the truck to the shop because apparently after 3 months of sitting, 3 flat tires, no fuel and a dead battery... so i had to pump up the tires enough to get them back to round, jump start the truck tried to move it, frozen to the ground and stalled it.. course battery is dead, add fuel, jump start it again, put truck into 4wd and finally get it to the shop.

Honestly, it's not even that far off. 1/4 of an inch at most, and I doubt even that much.

ya i dont think its that much. haha.. its crying for some nice D-rings tho!!!
i tried to pull my quad (rolling chassis right now) out of the way with the newer craftsman mower but its frozen to the ground so i'll back to the truck up to it wrap a chain around the bumper and to the quad and pull it that way. then do the same for the trailer frame im going to use for hauling the mowers, its frozen to the ground also... so we'll see how the bumper holds up..
