Alcoa rims for $100

just picked them up this morning. they have some stuff that looks kinda like silly string, or broken up pieces of foam on them. anyone have any idea what it is? also now i gotta figure out what tires i want with them.

that silly string stuff means your rims are ruined and cant be used. ill give you your money back.

ha good deal, it might just be something from where they were stored like an insulation foam from a can

here is the junk i was talking about, also only came with 2 center caps. someone posted that they could get them for $27 a piece. i need to get ahold of them and see if they can still get them for that price. also anyone know the weight difference between these and the teardrops. iirc these weigh in at 17 lbs

Yeah I have a feeling that maybe the clearcoat is peeling and the aluminum is oxidizing.

Stone did this to a set of rims. I don't know if your rims need this, but it's an option to think about.

It is corrosion.

Easy to sand that out and re-paint though.

I did my 16" teardrops with Duplicolor Wheel paint, they came out great.

Clean the inner wheel. Don't let the balancer guy put weights on them like shown. Make him use the stick-ons on the inside. You'll like the looks better that way.

alcoa's have a mechined finish that you can not replicate with sanding.. unless he paints the whole wheel something different.. you cant spot fix it..

it looks like it is in the clear coat, so i am going to have to follow the write up zach did here

warning large picture, wife's camera is much better than mine. this is after i scaled it down more than %50.

and on a side note, i need to finish my photo hosting web page, much easier than one at a time on here.

What if the clear is messed up allowing the oxidation. Couldn't you do it then and repaint them? Just wondering.

that looks more like something is on it try washing them with like simple green. and polishing them with something meant for PAINT like white rubbing compound.

if not then there is something more wrong with them.. now i am color blind but doesnt that spots seem to look pinkish?

it is white, not pink. at least in real life. thanks for all the replies.

now the next debate, what tire and what size... i am willing to tbar crank, or 1" bl to fit a 33 and they need to be a every day tire.

also, what color powder coat, i am thinking black.

$110 per wheel to get it all done. so $440 total plus tax. for $180 i can buy the gun, and talk to a few friends to use their sandblasting stuff, and oven and do it my self.
