Crown King Trail Run (tons of pics)

It's a 25-30 mile trek (1 way) from Lake Pleasant up to Crown King (old mining town). It goes from the desert up to the pine trees. It's usually fairly easy and a stock 4x4 can do it. Currently with the rains and washouts short wheelbase highly recommended (Jeep) and a rear traction device. I hit my undercarriage so much it hurts. I got hung up once on a ledge, had to rock stack to get me over. My long wheelbase hurt me 3 major times on this trail. I used my rock sliders once and if I didn't have them my passenger door wouldn't be operating. I was aired down to 15psi the whole trip. It starts out easy and gets harder towards the top. There were worse parts of the trail that I don't have pics of because we were more worried about not losing a truck than pics. My truck made it over every place these Jeeps did, I just had more difficulty. There are some fun obstacles down low but they have bypassess. Here are the pics mostly in order.

There so so many dings undere there I don't want to count but those are the big ones.

That is enough pics. Overall I beat up my truck way more than I wanted to but it was all fun. Tough trail that is scenic and very rewarding at the end. 6 hours of trail riding that ends at a Saloon in the pines, it was nice!

Wow what an incredible looking trail ride! Especially like whats at the end of the trail!! (saloon in the middle of nowhere) I wish i had trails like that near me!

I bet a set of 285/75/16's would give you just enough clearance to avoid rubbing on a trail like that.

Great Pics!

My 265/70/16s rubbed the bedsides a few times. Any larger tires would be worse. Around the wheel well the body is pulled out from these tires. Going larger would just create more rubbing and damage to the rear wheel wells. Out here I need the flex and I don't wnat to be tearing up the body too much.

My long wheel base screwed me the most. The 3 large ledges (1 pictured above) cought the underside and created almost all the damage seen in the pics I posted. Wet rocks also made it harder.

That trail looks awesome, great pics. As much as you are out and about why don't you get some mud terrains.

I might get some KM2s but I'm on the fence. It's my DD and on the rare occasion we get rain here in Phx the ATs are nice. Plus this past winter I bought 2 sets of snow chains which cost me around $230. I get larger tires = mud tires = more expensive rubber = worse gas mileage = buy a set of new chains. All I do is see it costing me more $$ than it's worth. If somebody wants to buy these snow chains for $175 plus shipping they're yours. I used them once. Then I'll buy larger tires.

Here are my chains. Anybody wanna help me, lol.

not necessarily bigger but just something a little more aggressive to help on the trail. Like mt/rs or mtz or something of that nature that will still last on the road.

just my thought, and I have some mt/rs looking for a new home haha j/k

awesome trails! i so want to ride those with you guys right now.

and why do you need chains? if you get a good MT i would think it would void the need for chains. MTs do fine in the rain.

If I had the knowledge I'd love to do a SAS because after doing some of these harder trails I could really use the flex and height.

We saw some wildlife too. Only pic I have is of a taranchula, but we also saw a rattler which is fairly common.

lol you can see the sights if you ride with me! Cindy has some good home style cooking! Next time you're up there with me we need to eat on the porch and not in the back of the saloon.

If I were you, walk into the places where you dropped off you're apps and ask to speak to the manager. Tell the manager you're following up on your app. See what happens. It shows you're interested and if the manager sees that you might have a job shortly. It can't hurt.
