bed mounted spare? post em up!!!
lookin for ideas for mounting my spare once i get my 33's.
lets see some pics! |
lay it in the bed thats what i do with mine when i have one
|
i want something that is appealing to the eyes as well.
|
I've seen one before. Took up most of the bed. Absolutly gay imo
|
33s will fit under the bed and between the framerails. You can use the stock location.
|
bed mounted spare = less mpgs....just so you know. its all about airflow....and that angled spare i had in the bed for a while disrupted that airflow.
If youve got a toolbox, theres like absolutely no bed room. |
Search! There are threads on this. Or type it into google. a 6 foot bed is a 6 foot bed is a 6 foot bed.
|
wow you guys suck at answering questions... Check out this link..
rat-cage.com The MOST useful bed-mounted spare tire carrier out there IMO.. theres some pics on there site |
^^^^ agree that is the most pointless thing i have ever seen takes up way to much bed space then again not everyone uses there bed like i do
|
yeah i really hardly use my bed. and the rat cage is nice, but a little too pricey for my liking.
and MPG's really aren't a big deal to me. im sure the difference has to be pretty small. |
i would just lay it in the bed so that if you need your bed just take it out. its not like the tire is going to slide around
|
You are only running 31s, just tuck in the stock spare carrier

THUS, the OP's topic of something to hold the spare down and prevent it from sliding around. Me, i'm going to eventually flip the factory crank/winch over so that the tire is held to the bed floor instead of the frame. |
Yeah thats what I was about to say, flip the stock crank.
|
BUT...with a bodylift, i'll need to figure something out....maybe cut a hole behind the rear lisence plate...that way i'd actually be able to use the stock crank.

Well here is a pic for reference.. It's a 37" tire, but like mentioned NO bed room, but I have no other option for mounting a spare.
It's an angled mount, no clue who the maker is, bought it second hand for 25 bucks.. Attachment 173229 |

if u still like to use ur bed this is probably ur best bet:
http://www.tiregate.com/ Look at the PR Series. |
yeah i saw those too, really nice, but pretty expensive. i could have my local fab shop build one for way cheaper, and i might... but i need a front bumper built first
then there's this http://www.tiregate.com/bed_mount_0.shtml i think i could maybe mount that sideways on the side of the bed... |
Flat mount is the way to go, I would of went that way BUT this one was cheaper (used). But I wouldn't mount it on the side of the bed (tire standing up), it would make a HORRIBLE blind spot i would think! mount it down out of the way and out of other peoples eye sight!
|
^^ i'm getting one of the tailgate ones ;) lol
|
My old solution....Griggs has it now. Attached ot the tool box, could hold 31-35", Hi Lift locked to it. Take off all the stuff and the cover worked.
