They are a dime a dozen down here in the south with NO rust. For not much more. If you part all the good parts out you could make your money back and get something better. Take my advice as I have been there before a couple of times. If your money is tight you dont need a project car right now. I have had a few different project cars and I never had the money to work on them because my money was tight. I promise you in order to get THAT mustang in good shape and show worthy. At least 10k will be invested and thats not even touching the engine. You can get you a decent mustang with a v8 in the south for around 4-5 and you might put another 1-2k into it just to get it nice looking if you even need to. Just trying to help you out man.

Trust me, from a car guy that car is a lost cause. It will never be worth more than a v6 Car and that looks like some serious structural rust. It will cost you 10-15K plus easily to do a proper restoration (that's if you do most of the labor yourself) with that much rust and when your done it will be worth maybe $4K. Remember, Rust is like and iceberg, you may think you see it all but 90% of it is below the surface. That car is a unibody too so any rust like that on the bottom is more than a nuisance it is structural damage. You got a good deal on it and can easily part it out and make some money, then do yourself a favor and buy a decent car to start with. If it was a 69 Dodge Charger 500 then I could argue that it is worth the kind of money and work that this car will take, but not a 12 year old, dime a dozen v6 mustang.

I am basically going to restore it enough to drive it to work and back. This car is not going to be a show taking top 3 spot car. I will show her off to the local's at the local car show where people just bring there cars down and show them off. Basically a before and after type of thing. I have always wanted a mustang and now i have one in descent shape. I don't mind they rust as my truck is almost as bad cause of nystate winters and salt take there toll. So basically a fixer upper to relieve the miles on the truck and alittle bit better gas mileage then the truck right now. I appreciate all the comments guys on the car good or bad. You guys are great. Someday i will own my 69 mustang but for now this will have to do.

I think it's fine for a DD, but it obviously is going to take a lot of work. Around here you can't get much better for 600bucks.
My friend does the same thing with the cheap, rusty, old, etc trucks, and I would trade him for one of this trucks any day any time!

I would scrap it too. Looks like it was smacked in both sides. How is the front end? Have you driven it yet? I think there are more issues that you aren't seeing right now. Good luck to you on restoring it though. I understand the love for a stang but dang, that one has more rust on it than my 90 does.
