Finally have a 4x4 trail rig again.

I think it has been about a year since I've had 4x4 in my Bronco. It turns out that I had stripped a part of the passenger side hub to where it wouldn't engage anymore. This was done by accelerating from a stopped position too fast while in 4wd, the hub just couldn't handle the stress.

CrazzyEarl came over and helped me to figure out the problem late last year. We took out the broken parts out, and from there it was driven around with a fashionable duct tape style dust cap. For Chirstmas I got a set of new chrome style hubs, and finally this past week, I got around to working on it.

I wanted to change out both dust caps to the new chrome style ones. However when I installed the new dust cap on the driver side hub, it didn't want to unlock without using a lot of force. My solution, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I put on my old stock dust cap and the truck has a stylish two type dust cap look.

Here's the video of how I found I didn't have 4wd anymore: http://docsrealm.com/photo/110407/winks.wmv

No autopart stores had hubs for the truck, so I rode around with a Duct tape dust cover a few months.

Hey, great! Glad you were finally able to solve it.

What a coincidence also: my rig is finally 4 wheel drive...only it's not an "again" situation, lol.

my brother has a '79 Bronco he wants to sell.

You might need to rotate that hub John. If you put them on at the wrong angle, they will be hard to rotate.

Thanks Maurice, but its a problem with the dust cap. I took it off and worked on it, I might call up milemarker and see if they'd replace it for me.

I have the MM "Supreme Stainless" hubs figuring they might stay less corroded in Wharton water. They did say in the instructions that the ***** are stiff at first and they were. I worked them now and then and they're easier now. They're the 3/4 turn *****.

Mine are 3/4 as well, but... it only makes it about 5/8 before it can't turn anymore... even with vice grips. I believe it is definitely defective.

I'm getting it registered this week, then dropping it off to be inspected with the "soon to be" inlaws on the 22nd, but I may not have it back up here till after my honeymoon, which is the 29th. So... you guys probaby won't be able to see it for a while.
