Not a Ranger but still cool...
This is my grandpa's '78 VW karman edition that he reasontly sold.
The engine is a bored and stroked 2276cc with magnum heads, 140 engle cam, 11lb. flywheel, B&M supercharger, H.D. racing clutch, special built trans. with racing gears, bus axels, Gene Berg shifter, 600 Holly Carb, and a MSD Ignigtion System. It use to have nitrous but it was removed. You can see the red bottom on the wheel left behind from when it was installed. The paint has a light flake in it that shows only at the perfect angle with the perfect amount of light. The tv was wired in but was rarely in it since it didnt look all that great.
You canfind more pictures of the car here.

Edit: I forgot to add that he bought the car from a lady at work after it caught fire in the parking lot. The fire fighters were unable to get to the car so it just burnt to the ground and he then bought it from her for 100 bucks.

Well, it usually only takes around 100hp to do wheelies in a reg beetle, maybe 120hp in a convertible. In my experience, that combo, with the Roots super charger that really doesn't add much more than it takes away, I'd guess somewhere around 200hp maybe. 200hp in that car would feel like a ton though. Sadly, those motors don't take to the roots style super chargers very well. He coulda pushed closer to 300hp with a turbo though. Just remember guys, it's still an air cooled 2.3l.
BTW, my 2075cc NA Ghia would do wheelies with 183hp.

Well I dont know that much about the motor but, I do know that everything there was custom built for the motor and all the bugs worked out. He drove it around town all the time with no problems for a couple years.
He had another vw with 2 small turbos also but sadly I have no pictures of that car. It was more of a street car.

Tys 4x4, the dash may be from a different year model, I dont think it is but it could be. I would have to ask him about that. Like I said he rebuilt this car after if burn to a crisp.
INT3RC3PTOR, yes ia says 465hp but Im sure he added a little to the real power, or that could be an old hp ratting that the car use to have because he was always changing things out. It snaps axles, does wheelies, and eats tires so what ever the hp is I know its alot. I would have to ask him about this to see if he put it on the dyno or how he got that number.
I never really asked any questions about the car, I just took rides in it and worked on it with him when I could.

possibly behind the vents? on our old tricked out F-100 i installed some tweeters behind the vents. pretty effective, but sucks for the air flow!!!

Nice, my uncle has a vw bus in storage. I have been trying to get him to take it out so that I could fix it up. I almost ended up with that bus instead of my ranger, but we didnt think it would be reliable enough without alot of work.
Both nice cars, that first one is very close to the same color of the other bug he owned.

Lots of work. The ' car ' doesnt weigh much so it should do quite well.
400+ HP? I don't think so. That car would tear in half!
The Hip thing I have seen recently is kids taking a vintage beetle and dropping in Audi A4 engines with turbos on them. Theres 3 or 4 of them in my area. They all can pull BOTH front tires off the ground and take off like a rocket. They don't have any top-end speed but up to 100mph.. nothing can really catch them outside of a crotch-rocket type of bike.
Those kids say they have about 250ish HP and probably about the same in torque levels.
