I wasn't about to spend $1200 on a canopy for a truck that's gonna become a wheeler in a year or so. $260 plus paint and cleaning will more than serve its purpose for me and my girl. Thanks guys :-) |
looks good there, im more of an open bed but looks great.. and in that cold weather id probably would have a camper also..
Yeah I'm pretty sure that is from a previous gen Ranger or something based on how the cab lines up. But it works.
headache rack 1, cap 0.
makes me want a cap...but i have a camper for that purpose...with heating
Ha Scott, your spoiled. Looks good, I'm not crazy about caps but it still looks sweet.

Yeah it'll serve its purpose. Gnna build a shelf setup for an air matress and a place for a small electric heater for camping. Should be great when it's done and do what I bought it for! I'm with you tho Brian, he said it came off his 98, but I don't think it was "made" for a ranger, though it works. Lol |
with as nice of a truck you have, you should not be putting a crooked top on itm sell it and buy one that fits

Its not a permanent thing. If it were to remain on there for good, I would. Its just a winter alternative if I chose to have it on. |
I love the camper shell look and the true funcionality it provides. You plan on getting a roof rack or anything? I solved my cold nite problem with a power inverter and an electric blanket. I love your truck man.... it looks great!
Truck looks awesome with the headache, still looks awesome with the ghetto cap, like he said, temporary. And whether you like the look of caps or not, you can't deny their functionality on a truck with bed rails as low as the ranger. I'm completely torn.. I have a liner sprayed tool box in the basement that I love the look of on my truck, but then my truck isn't as useful. I like the look (don't love) of my leer cap, but more important, it's just so damn useful I can't argue.. may take it off for summer though.

For those that may still be watching the thread, it's been awhile... But I got the cap painted up today beings it was so nice out! We ran out of clear, so sometime next week we're gonna wet sand it through the layer of clear and re shoot it. I'm also gonna be painting all the aluminum window trim in black gloss again once all the HVLP painting is done. Also, taking the lower aluminum black trim pieces that hold the rubber molding, into work and having powder coated... Just much easier than painting! Lol Anyways... Here's my update from today:
After DA'ing and wet sand 600, rinsing the soap off and wiping it down: http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...7_439056_n.jpg After it was painted (started to get really cold at this point, good timing!): http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6120853_n.jpg Back on the truck for transport home, letting the paint cure up and set up a bit before next week when we shoot the clear again. Leaving the tape on for now, that wasn't fun taping all that off lol: http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6654983_n.jpg Enjoy! |
Love the truck, the toppers well...
Much better, too bad it doesn't match the lines of the truck.
It's not horribly matched.... But yeah, it's not meant for a ranger, though the guy said it was. I still bought it though. For what I paid and what I have into it... I'll have under $400 into the thing color matched with a new paint job, new lock, new rear window struts and a clean inside paint job that's sealed and leak free.... That's basically gonna be used for fall and winter. Shane's lookin at droppin $1,400 on a canopy here shortly. I'll take that $1,000 I saved and make better use of it. It'll work for me lol.
It will serve the purpose and for what you have invested it definitely isn't a bad deal. Off topic, but what happened to Shane anyway?
I still see and hang out with him like once a week at least. He's just kinda moved on from the forums. Got his life on track and works a ton now. Best way to track his mods now is either FB or through my pics. I really don't see him being active on the forums anymore.
Looks good man. Your truck is something else now. Sucks about Shane he was always probably the most active person on here before I left.

What’s next ? |
