Alright, finally my CBR gets pulled out of the corner it has been in for the past 2.5 years! The coating of dust on it was discgusting, and i dont think ill ever let it sit so long again!

Havent started it yet, i want to change the oil first, but i cleaned and waxed it, and the paint faired pretty well. The battery has been on a battery tender since i parked it, and i know its perfectly fine as i used it to run my lawn mower when it died a few months back.

On to the pictures i took this morning. Insurance goes on it april 22nd!

I'll be re-doing some wiring and running some LED's on it before it goes on the road. Little bit of a mini project for me!

Nice! I want one but I am undecided on a chopper/harley or a crotch rocket.

 

How are the carbs and gas tank after sitting so long? The one bike I had, it sat for just as long and the tank had to be acid etched and carbs had to be re-built. I hope thats not the case for you dude!

 

Insurance was too much pre month to afford it and the truck.

if you dont have the need for a sport bike, a chopper is way less $$$

tank is mint, i only run premium gas and fuel stabalizer. ive drained and refilled the fuel in it whil it was sitting as its ran while stored, just hasnt ran in about 6 months.

also, this is full computer controled EFI system, so no worried of needing a rebuild.


Oh, its also under warranty for the next 2 years, or unlimited kms, so im good there. I'll run fuel system cleaner, replace the fuel filter and air filter before it hits the pavement.

getting my bike license on sunday (fingers crossed) looking at getting a Yamaha FZ6R (600cc) for my first bike, but I'd definitley consider a CBR...

id grab something smaler for your first bike, this thing weighs 400lbs and has 102HP to the rear wheel(dynoed before parking it). you've got a very big chance of dropping it if you dont have riding experience. i rode for 3 years before i bought this bike. check out something under 600CC. you insurance will be lower and you will learn faster.

if you do go for a 600, get a cbr. they run forever, plus yamaha, along with suzuki are know in the sportbike world as throw away bikes. they work and do the job, but ive never ridden a bike as nicely built as my CBR. I can ride from toronto to newyork in a day and still feel great on it.

 

Sharp looking bike you have. Since gas prices are skyrocketing I'm considering throwing my Dirt Bike for sale and picking up a r6 or cbr 600.

 

i would. gas and insurance for the bike combined, will still cost less then gas alone for my truck. plus i wont put much more then 1500kms on the truck this summer.

i love my 1999 yamaha r6. incredible bike, awesome for a first bike, and absolutely not a throw away bike. who ever told you that should actually ride one. i can not speak about any bike newer than 2005, but from my experience the yamaha family of bikes has performed better than any other bike i have ridden or my buddies own.

 

we should do a highway cruise this summer.

 

Nice man! I am wanting to get into riding, I am debating on a Small rebel or a dual sport as a start, I am the fan of the Bobber style so eventually I woulnt mind having a bobber cruiser.

 

Bet you can't wait to get out on the CBR I was out tonight for my first ride this year... loved it and missed riding and my bike was only parked for the winter.

A cruise would be fun or if there is a truck meet could be a truck/bike meet.

As for the comment on cbr is durable others aren't... couldn't be the further from the truth.

Just read your comment to post pics if you got a bike... here's me in race at Shannonville. Love this pic because it's a rare inside shot and knee touching bike and ground and visible tire squish makes me smile :)


And here's what happens to race tires that I don't like... this was a US made Dunlop 211 GPA and it went off after 6 laps and was done at 10... it had to DIE a painful death plus burnouts are fun :)

I have taken a motorcycle riding course so I am fairly confident in my riding and I don't want to get anything smaller than a 600cc because I don't want to have to upgrade for a while... if its too much power... I'll use half the throttle lol

A really good way to pick a bike is go around and check them all out. look at specs and compare models and what they are better at and what the lack in. A great thing to do is go sit on them. All bikes sit a bit different when your upright and riding. see what is comfortable for you...It's just like buying a car. Your not going to buy a car that is really uncomfortable for you to drive all the time. (super cars not included. lol) Don't go with one persons opinion either. Like I said look around and check out TONS of reviews. Even though sometimes they don't even tell the truth. You also may go in for one thing and come out with a completely different model then what you were looking at initially. Everyone has a bias opinion. Go with what feels right for you.

I was talking to a friend the other night about getting a beginner bike of some sort.

 

Make a cafe cruiser. haha I want want to do this one day just for the heck of it. Fun, lightweight bike that you can make look pretty cool.

 

Thanks man! I'll do that! I obviously don't wanna pick something I'm not going to be happy with and since I'm new at the whole motorcycle thing, being overwhelmed is easy to do when you're first starting out

 

Yea i wasnt shocked at how it started up, ive got alot of faith in my CBR, but it is spitting a bit. she is also backfiring when i do a rev bump from 4500 to 7000 repeatedly (moto gp style warm ups) after i get a few hundred kms on it ill see if the trouble isnt from it sitting.

now to get the K&N filter, and start on the wiring.

Thanks for the compliments on the bike guys, i love this bike so much, as it was also my very first vehicle that i bought back in 2008.

I just got my hands on a VFR800, love that bike it's got nice pick up. Would of rather had a cruiser, but price talks and cruisers are well outta my price range! Good looking bike! Where did you get the double bubble screen? Need to snag one of my bike as well!
