First Time Mudding....AFTERMATH

http://www.trucknight.com/index.php

Went up to Yankee Lake which is our "local" off road spot. About an hour from me. It's private, $10 a person to go in. Big mud bit with hills and stuff. Lots of good trails. A river that you can drive through. Big hills and giant "puddles" that swallow fullsizes on 44s haha. It kinda like a fair to, people show off there trucks and there are pulls. It's a good time if you are into the redneck thing haha. I went with my buddy who has a 95 Wrangler 2.5L 4x4 lifted on 31s. He always gives my Ranger a lot of crap for being a 2WD minitruck but I hossed it through everything he did minus the steep inclines and the deep, deep holes. I didn't get to take pics while we went but I have aftermath lol. Some guy in a rattle can black early 90s Expo pulled up to me in the mud pit, said he recognized me from the forums. He said he had an 80s Ranger getting a 4BT swap. It didn't ring a bell though. Only got stuck twice, both times in ruts. First time we loaded the bed up with people and I rocked it out, second time the Jeep had to tug me a bit cause I buried myself in mud up to the top of the tires. My buddy and myself were very impressed at how she did. I'm so proud haha.

Here's at the gas station about a mile from the Lake. I noticed my battery light come on and my gauge was on low. It was running though. I killed it at the gas station and it wouldn't start up. Had a SD jump me, got out on the road and died again lol. Typical Ranger alternator got jammed up with mud and died. So I had to get her towed an hour home ($105 later) and an hour of disassembling and cleaning out the alternator she fired right back up! Not to bad!

Here she is in the light at home, dead as a door nail with no alternator haha. I'm too proud for some reason haha. I was pretty cool with being all rednecked up though, it was something new. Clean up has been INSANE. Now I see why people don't take their DDs and go all the time in general. Undercarriage alone was an hour. Engine bay was another hour. Left the exterior to show off the 2WD powa haha. Inside is a mess so that's the project this week.

All and all I wouldn't do it often but I had a great time playing on the trails and in the mud. The Torsen was a blast, couldn't have done it without her. Tires did AMAZING. Only things besides LOTS of cleaning I need to address is the tranny is rough into gear and I need to check the diff fluid. A lot of fun but also very expensive and potentially even more expensive trip.

Looks like you guys have some fun.
I want to get out and go mudding soon, but there isn't really like a decent place to go thats not over the top rock crawler style. but either way, its really cool that you got to do that.
you need more camouflage and we'll accept you as an honorary redneck.

Nice, looks like it handled the "rednecking" well. I've never heard someone refer to it as rednecking. hah

Where I'm from, it's normal day to day activity. lol

Awe muffin!

dude its a truck

I like keeping mine clean too, but a little mud and dirt never hurt it.

Gives me an excuse to feed my OCD about having a clean vehicle

Unfortunately no, I was too focused on driving to shoot pics and I didn't even think to give the camera to one of my buds in the bed. I was just trying to keep it out of the "puddles" and keep momentum so I didn't get stuck.

Sweeeet. I rocked my R/F hoodie and my Carhartt (the most redneck thing I owned) and I stopped at walmart to pick up the Mossy Oak "Ohio" hat lol. I needed something to complete the look. In that pic I switched back to tennis shoes, I had my hunting boots on at the Lake.

HAHA Yeah the buddy with the Jeep went every weekend last summer in his fullsize K1500. He only went a few times this summer and since this was the last weekend of the season (minus the halloween weekend which is packed) we had to go. Plus he JUST did his lift this week. I always wanted to anyway and since I'm out of work I figured if I killed the truck it's not an emergency to fix it.

The coolest thing was a spot on the trail about 30 feet length of water with rock underneath. The water was about 4 feet deep and when I went plowing through it the headlights go under and the water sweeps over the cab. Nothin like it....

I remember the first time that I went mudding. I got stuck, had to get towed, knocked my alignment, spent 8 hours cleaning my truck... and did it again the next weekend, haha. Looks like you had a good time though! Getting through something in a 2wd always makes you feel accomplished.

Yeah the rain all week made it a sloopy mess. Not that they don't pump water into the mud area anyway lol.

UPDATE MECHANICALLY: I'm doing the tranny fluid cause she's not wanting to go in gears 1, 2, or 3. I ran her at 4-5k in 1st and 2nd for about an hour total that night so I'm not surprised if I put some wear on the tranny. Not big metal shavings or chunks on the magnet but the fluid was very discolored. Hopefully just a change fixes the issue.

UPDATE AGAIN: Yep swapping the tranny fluid fixed the shift issue right up. Back to normal. The fluid was damn near black lol. Next is rear end fluid ($50-$60 each time OUCH). And the power steering fluid is now a milky dark color so it's been contaminated. I need to inspect the rack and make sure my seals are good. This whole trip is costing me quite a bit lol.

Mine did great all night besides getting stuck in a 6ft hole.

Your truck looked great and did good for 2wd.

Also its a 93 undergoing a 4bt swap and dana 60s.

Ill be up your way this weekend blowing money at summit and grabbing stuff from pull a part.

Oh hey! Yeah Summit and Pull-A-Part are GREAT places to burn money hahaha. If I didn't have plans Saturday I would be happy to meet you at pull-a-part, I can always use some Ranger stuff from there. I'm free Sunday though.

Yeah my buddies Jeep got stuck in a deep as 3-4 hole. That was the only issue he had being 4x4. Man you had that Expo PACKED with people. And I think I went to school with the chick who was sitting in the center in the back lol.
