I did that. I was on a trail for like 10 hours because I mad the mistake of offroading in some fairly deep snow with 2wd truck and my truck with bald tires. I kept getting stuck on a slight incline and I finally made it about halfway up when I got stuck. I set the parking brake and got out to dig the tires out a bit. I got in and tried to take off and I just kept stalling. I didn't think clearly because I was tired and I floored the gas and dumped the clutch with the parking brake on. I heard a loud bang but said f*ck it and kept driving. I went to hit the brakes and found out I had none. I had to downshift to stop. I looked at everything and found out that the force tore the wheel cylinders off of the backing plates and pulled some brake line in along with destroying all the springs and everything related to the rear brakes. I didn't have to buy a new axle but everything cost me about $1300 to fix. I could have done it myself for way cheaper but I was leaving for a week cruise the next day so I had no time to look at it. All well.

Did it mess up both sides?

I was fortunate in that it only tore up the drivers side and it didn't mess up the axle tube.
Just went to the junkyard and pulled the backing plates.
It's been over a year now and it's still riding so.

I pulled 2 sets while I was there, just in case..

Well basically i jumped in my truck put it in 1... pulled the parking brake release (the cable was bad so it didn't really release)... and then i heard a pop... i thought oh its prolly the locker cuz it makes weird noises occasionally. I tapped the gas very slightly and heard a crunch... then i was like oops.

Really the only reason i had to buy a new axle is cuz i couldn't get the freakin c-clip outta the locker... thus i could pull the shaft or the backing plate off. the tabs on the axle were bent pretty too though.

The j/y axle was only $225 too so now i got a bunch of extra parts.

For now no... I contacted Richmond via e-mail and there gonna call me later. i guess i see what they say. Other wise i'll torch it out and sell it. I can't keep chopping up a carrier every time i wanna remove a shaft.
