I cant do anything with the front because of the body lift, but now that my crossmember is messed up and my bumper is about to fall off... I think its time for something heavy duty.
You can stick your hand in there:

Eh, yea. Gotta learn your lesson somewhere. Her A/Ts probably weren't the best choice for that kinda driving, but most people can't just go out and pickup another set of tires...gotta run what cha brung! As far as the recovery points, I knew I should have tied my hooks together, but i got that issue solved now and it should work out better next time. As for her truck, she does need some sort of hook up that way. Luckily it seems like the damage is just to the front crossmember. Which off the top of my head is bolted to the frame, and has adjusting slots in it..I'd hope the crossmember was bent out taking up the slack in the adjustment slots. If thats the case, a junkyard crossmember would fix that up just fine!

It's not a wheeling truck if there isn't a little carnage here and there. Actually, I've recovered your truck from about 5 different pits in 3 different locations and that's the only damage I've caused so far. You should probably consider yourself kinda lucky.

Ya, lucky that I didn't cause more damage. When you were stuck and I needed to attach to the front I considered the sway bar first. I didn't think anything could get around that crossmember. So ya, you're lucky Goody pointed that out and I didn't tear up your front sway bar, that would've been really bad.

*EDIT, re-read the majority of the thread. Why would the sway bar even be a choice?

not trying to be a smart *** or anything, but what's your guy's suggestion for a 'better' pull point on the front of her truck, with no hooks and the front valance on? Sway bar would have given up quick, which is why I went against that one, wouldn't have held up at all. But what else is up there to pull off of except that crossmember??

I haven't looked at the front of an IFS Ranger in a while... But if I can remember correctly, the lower front x-member would of been a better candidate than that weak one the strap was wrapped around. That would only work if the strap could fit between the rack and pinion and the x-member. Still, I would of made all efforts to pull from the rear. Also, yanking is a no no. A window is bound to break or better yet someone can get seriously injured.

on my truck we always hook up around the frame right behind the frame horn...although the last time i got pulled out that took a toll seeing how my frame horn is bent out now. Any suggestions seeing how a 5 lb. hammer won't budge it?
edit: sorry to thread jack. i can get some pics later and try to put them up

Get a BFH! Seriously, mine was bent a bit from winching it onto a trailer lots of times for the SAS and 4WD conversion. I just got an axe that was 4' long and had a huge flat head on the rear, it probably weighed a good 20-30lbs and I just beat the f* out of it until it was good enough to put my bumper back on..
