A Little Adventure
Today I went to check out a state trial and then drove around the rest of the state. 265 miles to be exact.
A little hill climb for the ATVs. That road in the back ground is the "trail".
I found this "minimum maintenance road". I think it was actually a no maintenance road. It was pretty fun. That big yellow sign always means something fun is down that road.
And then I just found this random lot with 3 wrecked metro transit busses. a good 125 miles from their home. I did find some nice horns, air tank and a compressor. I was really tempted to grab it, but I think busses run off of a 24 volt system.
Turbo diesel swap anyone? I can get you an engine CHEAP!
Massive front tow points.
And heres the cranes.
What is this new mod?

Awesome pics man!
I have an idea.....go back, take the front displays off of the busses (the destination displays), then sell them for cheap and have someone retrofit it into the side of the camper shell on the back of their truck, saying Ranger-Forums: A Premiere Site For Ford Ranger Enthusiasts going across....lol.....gay I know, but, I definately thought of it.

The compressors only need 12v D.C. to run the gauges and gov. It pumps via belt and pully attached to the crank. They are way too large for any passenger vehicle application unless you do some serious modding, so good call on leaving them. However you could make a preety penny infront of a local diesel shop with those bad boys...A bad commpressor means no air to stop truck

Oh and by the way if there's a bad compressor the truck wont go anywhere. The air pressure in an air brake system holds the brakes "open" (not stopping). Its a lose of pressure that causes the vehicle to stop.

I took it out at the dunes. That is exactly how it broke. It broke very cleanly. I think Im gonna body lift it and just leave it like that. Pain the frame black and call it good.
And then on the passengers side where its a bit messed up, I ran over a tree stump that was pulled out of the ground. Scratched the fender up pretty good too.
Heres where it happened. It was at the bottom of air bag hill.

Im a truck driver and mechanic, when stoped the truck goes no were, while moving when the brakes are hot you need "air application" into the system to push air out of the chambers...or a good emergency valve. Those air commpressors are exspensive.
There are some busses that have an independent air compressor inside the bus. Those will run the horn and the exit door, some of the nicer ones will open the windows in the back and will control the A/C. If thats the case those are run off of 12v and sometimes have their own independent fuse box and is connected to the last battery ( the one furthest from the frame). I have a few at work that I cant for the life of me figure out a way to get them mounted in my truck
