made a "minor" modification to the Bug
my buddy, Steve and i put on a tech day for the rest of the club, last sunday. we wanted to go over regular maintenance, body work, an engine tear down, brake work, and whatever else someone brought to the table.
the day started off well with Steve attempting an inaugural burnout in the new shop. his bug was too low and got too much grip, even after we poured a half gallon of bleach on the ground. he burned up his clutch. no worries, we had that fixed and cleaned up in 30 minutes. having a parts stash really helps out in a pinch, not to mention his bug is a volksrod so there was nothing in the way of dropping the engine.
we tore down Marvin's engine from his Baja. discovered why he's leaking so much oil, a cracked head. so, there a $300 fix for the old man.
my girl's bug needed some rust repair so we decided that she should help us doe some work to it.
we adjusted Chris' steering box and ate some BBQ and found ourselves unsatisfied. what else could we do?
so i pulled in my 60 and we hacked off the front suspension. tore it down, cut it up, installed some adjusters, and mounted it back on.
test fit.
finished product
and my brother snapped this photo as i was sitting up from trying to pull the 5 reflectors off the underside of my car. of course Steve just sits there and doesnt tell me.
*edit, i look drunk as hell! not to worry though, its just my grimace of pain. thats the face you see when i tinge those broken vertebrae*
sorry for the quality of the photos, they were from my brothers camera phone.

ill lower the rear one click, but thats it for now. i like the raked look.
thanks for the kind words, fellas. i certainly have to be careful where i drive now. my driveway is all gravel so now my car doubles as a plow.
yesterday i took Lauren home. there was a dip in the road that i bottomed out on. the cop behind me told me all he saw was sparks and dust hit his windshield. he pulled me over to make sure everything was okay, complimented my ride, and let me go. pretty cool guy. Lauren was incredibly scared. needless to say she'll be driving her bug a bit more often now, which is fine with me.
there is a bridge near my house that i forgot to slow down before. my brother was with me this morning when i hit the bridge at 65mph. we caught air. it was amazing fun. i love this car so much more now.
all the sparks and road pitting is due to a reenforced section of the frame head that is the perfect spark block. i dont need it on the car anyway. we've cut the entire front end off Steve's bug and welded on a Model A straight axle with no harm done. you can see the work in the picture of Steve's car.
