New Photo of the Truck. Playing around with night photography

Went out to the desert this past weekend to test out the new MT/R's and HID's (converted my Hella 4000's) and figured I'd take stab at some night shots while I was at it. Well camera problems limited what I could take, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

What do you think?

Oh, and I don't want to hear any crap about it being another rear 3/4 shot... with the lights I simply couldn't get a front shot of it. So there. lol

Thoes lights are bright. What are the amber rear lights for and the tail lights off? I am assuming its so people behind you can see where your at but why not red?

The amber lights are dust/collision lights. Amber light cuts through dust much better than red or white so they are used so that as you come up on another vehicle in the dust you will be able to see it and not collide with them unintentionally. The other reason they are not red is because brake lights are red, don't want to get those two confused.

The tail lights aren't on because I just didn't turn them on. lol

Looks good, there is definitely a skill to good night pictures.

TrePaul86 05-18-2009 11:42 PM

Looks sick man!

What kit did you useto convert your Hella's? I've been thinking about doing the same to my PIAA's with the spare ballasts I have laying around lol

I used a cheap H1 (bulb) HID kit from DDM Tuning. Worked pretty well. Though in that photo only two of the three lights are on, the third ballast only lasted 10 minutes. Oh well, you get what you pay for right?

Drive at night all the time, well, whenever I'm in the desert at night. Anytime we camp somewhere there is always night driving involved. It's just sooo much fun.

No plans on going to the 500. I have a work obligation starting that same weekend.

When I actually get a chance to test them fully. So far I'm happy. They are a little loud on the highway but have a great ride. In dirt, they work. Loose dirt seem to work well, but didn't find much of it. Haven't tried any hill climbs, sand, mud, or rocks yet.

I need to do some clearancing as the tires were tearing up my fenders so I had to take it easy. Next time out will be the real test for them.

TrePaul86 05-19-2009 11:52 AM

I thought most aftermarket lights where H3? Hmmm.... I wonder if the H3 they sell would work in my slim PIAAs... You've got me thinkin now dang you!

rngprerunner 05-19-2009 12:18 PM

Nope, they very from light to light. It just so happens that Hella 4000's are H1.

How deep are your slim PIAA's? The HID bulbs are pretty long... well you know... just measure and see if one of the HID bulbs you currently have will fit (length wise). This is the problem most of have with wanting to convert Hella 500's, the housing is too shallow.

TrePaul86 05-19-2009 12:34 PM

Yeah the housing is like 2in deep... It's not big at all... I'll have to find me a slim H3... I wanna say they make them... I swear I've seen them...

Thanks for the input though!
