Look here, read the story. Look around some forums and see if it is very common on the sti.

I think the first performance upgrade will also be a Perrin catted downpipe to go with the magnaflow catback and a tune.
No cat. Any 3" turbo back exhaust will do.

You should ask around and see if the 05 STI has an oil screen in the banjo bolt on the turbo. They can easily become clogged (especially if you run synthetic with higher mileage between changes) and starve the turbo of oil. Most people just remove the screen.
Don't bother, upgrade to a 3582 and it will come w/ a new oil setup.

I don't have an sti, not that it matters. I don't care for the sound that normally results from no cats and a 3" turbo back, most of the time they sound too raspy and ricey to me. That might be okay for you and your mitsu but I don't care for it, and it's my wife's daily driver. If I end up somewhere that required inspections it would be a little easier to pull of with 1 high flow cat than none at all.
If I were trying to get the absolute most from the engine, running a huge turbo, FMIC, equal length headers, fuel pump, injectors etc etc I may consider otherwise. But even a 3" turbo back with a high flow cat and a tune has proven to add a reasonable amount of power, and I haven't seen enough evidence that there is much difference in hp/tq between catless and 1 high flow cat on a mildly tuned engine.
If I had a catted up pipe (OP's 05 STI might have one) I would remove it asap, but I know I would see a decent increase in power with a 3" down pipe with a high flow, it would still sound good and my wife wouldn't mind it (again it's her daily).

So I got pulled over last night already. Cops pulled a u turn to follow me and ran my plate which was still registered to the ranger (i have 2 weeks to switch it) but i took my bill of sale and insurance out by accident in the folder with the rest of the stuff and couldn't prove it was actually my car, so it got impounded for the night till i could go in today and prove it was mine.. damn cops.. and when I went in to register it before i could get it out i discovered i had almost $600 dollars in photo radars over the past year since i moved and haven't changed my address on my license yet which was also cracked and got in trouble for as well. but the cop said as long as i get a new license, and show him within a week that ticket will go away, and go to court with proof that i had registration and insurance and all those tickets will go away, it was just a huge pain in the A$$

Haha, that sucks. Funny that you got pulled over already though, that's exactly why I didn't want one.

painting the wheels black magically makes an STI a sleeper? haha.

The only way to make that a sleeper is to keep the exuast stock, dont paint the wheels black and remove the wing... All of which is a bad idea. I love STI's bone stock for apearance with many under hood mods.

Not much, Corvettes aren't that special. 350whp, no problem. I could give him more than that with what he has now on just E85.

Nice, time for atleast a COBB AP, catless up/down pipes and 3" exhaust.

Brian you're crazy for wanting to do equal length headers on one, they ruin the sound and make they sound more like an inline engine lol.

it highly matters which corvette of course but Id imagine even you would not have so much fun with a bone stock c6z in your car and stock for stock an sti would have no chance at even a c5z and mod for mod, eh no point either..

just so its known I love all cars and just fueling fire for some fun car debates

JP7 any 1/4 mile times?

No no, re-read it. I said IF I were trying to squeeze all of the power out of, as in doing all of those things. Equal length headers would make a fair amount more power, but I love the sound of un-equal length too much. lol
Even if I ran a bigger turbo, intercooler, pump, injectors, downpipe, etc, I would stick with un-equal headers simply because I don't care if I left a little power on the table, it's not a track car. I just want to enjoy driving it.

I still keep thinking about trading it for another VW already though to be honest. Our VW felt like such a solid car, and the Subarus feel like, well, a Japanese car. At 16k miles it already has several different rattles and the whole car just feels cheaper than VW. The paint is thin and chips easily, interior feels cheap... Which is why we bought the 03 Jetta a while ago instead of a WRX, it just felt so much better overall.
But the Subaru is still a ton of fun to drive. Even being stock I can four wheel drift in first and second if the pavement is even a little bit wet, still pulling pretty hard all the while. Not so much with front wheel drive. Nevertheless I'm very tempted to go look at a 2010 Golf TDI if I can find one anywhere near here. Looking at what we owe, the trade-in value, and the price of a new Golf TDI I think we could probably hold the same payment. It might not be as fun to drive but we really like them. Or maybe we could just be happy with what we have.

Oops, sorry, seriously hijacking this thread.

I said paint the wheels and sleeper, lol I just hate the gold wheels they are too typical and i hate typical. lol.. And by sleepering it i mean taking off the wing and shaving the lid or put a smaller one on. And eventually a front mount intercooler and be able to ditch the hood scoop.
Not that I dont love the look of them as is, I like being inconspicuous, and this car is far from that. Every douchebag in a civic I pull up next to try's to race me, it's getting old fast. lol

I hear ya, the sleeper thing is pretty cool, a buddy of mine has a stock looking 91' civic 4 door with a bent coat hanger antennea and rusty body but has a turbo'd integra motor that puts down 250whp

nobody ever tries to race me so far only a g35 and an s2000

Sweet, I like that body style. Very clean too.

Our Jetta before some douchebag rear ended us at 60mph last September and totaled it.
03 GLI - VR6 six speed, black leather interior, moonroof, heated seats/mirrors, lowered with bigger f&r sway bars on 18s and 225s.

The stock suspension on the Legacy GT feels like a boat in comparison, but comes with more squeaks and rattles with a lot less miles. lol

I was considering looking for an R32 or something but its even smaller and insurance would be allot more on a 2 door. My insurance only went up 100 bucks a year oddly enough?? lol... I grew up driving VW's my first car was a black 84 Convertible Rabbit, then a 91 jetta then the GTX
And BLK02 that thing is bone stock! thats the way it came with a 2.0L 16v, BBS wheels, Recaro seats. I was going to bring it up here and do it up but now that I have the STI one of my vw nut buddys back east is buying it for a project car.
