This is why you should wear protection......
Whats so unreliable about these? I was in the market for a newer 335 awhile back (bought another house instead), but the only consistant problem I remember looking up is that they can wear fuel pumps pretty fast. Otherwise I think theyre really solid cars. Awesome power and good mpg to. Short of some boat like a crown vic, what late model car is easy to work on? My rangers the work truck and its not going anywhere, but Im still sick of driving a pickup everywhere. Im jealous, nice car
Thanks guys for all the kind words.
so far the only problem Ive heard about these is the water pumps... the propellers are plastic and with age they will fail. When the dealership got this in they replaced it with one that has metal propellers.
The top engine cover comes off super easy and allows easy access, I need to get better pics on the motor, there is plenty of space under the hood.
As for the Ranger she is still in the garage taking a little break, I will drive them both equally and treat them the same... no favorites.

4.4 is a good, reliable motor. And, with the mileage that you have on it, you could probably upgrade if you wanted more torque/hp. Problem is, it's not going to be cheap. I've built BMW racecars before. Personally, I love em; the response and handling cannot be beaten by anything American or Foreign.
The only problems that I have heard about with these cars are the: 1) Driveshaft Guibo 2) Cooling tube that mounts at the rear of the block (hard to get to; you'll need to pull the expanision tank) 3) Vanos/cam gear failure (on 1999-2000 models). Might I also suggest use only Lemforder when you have to change suspension parts. Their products last and they'll give the best handling.

Cool car. I've liked them ever since they were new. I'd be a leg humper if you got hold of the ever elusive 540 Sport wagon with the 6spd.
I'm no German car fan in general either. I just remember being at the body shop and working on these things. PITA overall but once you know them, it's not that big of a deal. Just different and certainly engineered differently lol.

Awesome! Had a 91' 535i (I think it was, hah) for a short while. BMW's always have a cool distinction from other brands, and series and gen/style (E30/34/36, etc) all have certain "cool" things about them from the rest. I'm a sucker for E36 3-series, and E39 & 60 5-series cars (specifically M-5's), but wouldn't mind a 5-series to own, besides repairs and upkeep. Exhaust, wheels, drop, tint, etc . . . do it!
x2...i cringe when i see a german car roll in lol
Thanks guys, I get attention where ever I go even when rolling don the freeway.
I had some fun with a buddy in a 2003 GT he has just an exhaust and intake... lets just say it was impressive to see what the old girl will do. I need to take my touch to it and get all these swirl marks and holograms out of the paint. One thing I am definitely loving is the gas mileage... so awesome.
