Its not ideal but it'll work for this trip, I'm just goin whats normally a 45 minute drive away.

Still gotta weld on tabs for the safety chains, I'm considering just hooking them to the front receiver. Then get some lights, or take my time and tap into the stock lights.

I towed it around the neighbor hood earlier and it seemed to track behind the Chevy perfectly.

chainfire 11-02-2009 11:42 PM

Do you lock the steering wheel in place?

I've seen a sami be flat towed, but never anything that big lol

zabeard 11-03-2009 05:43 AM

i know it has the power to pull but i want to see it on a trailer! i got money is sags like no other!

Roach2004 11-03-2009 07:09 AM

What do you do if you break an axle shaft or something? I thought the point of a tow rig was to throw it up on a trailer.

paintballer4758 11-03-2009 07:15 AM

i would throw a dollie under it.... but thats just me

don't have any lights for it yet, I'm about to go to harbor freight to get some that are magnetic. Then i'll take it out on the road.

haha, the guy who gave my buddy the setup towed his Comanche? Its big but it should work. I notched into the push bar and the tabs are 1/4", i also braced the push bar some..

and no, i left the key in the ignition to keep the wheels unlocked.

I won't be breaking a 9" shaft *knock on wood* Its not street legal right now and I dont have money for a trailer.. but i realllllly wanna to wheel so it'll work.

plus if i do break a 9" shaft its bearing retained so the tire won't walk out unlike the worthless 8.8 haha.. If i break a 44 shaft, well if i break both the one in there and my spare.. i'll just pull it all out so it'll steer.

ive been driving around with broken shafts, they dont bind in the 44 at all. assuming the hubs are unlocked.

but yeah FF axles FTW...

if the u-joint is broken you can't turn... but yea if the shaft itself is broken then its not an issue

zabeard 11-03-2009 10:42 AM

sure you can. unlock the hub...

99ranger4x4 11-03-2009 11:29 AM

not when the ears of the axle shafts hit each other inside the knuckle, I've been there.

Mmmm. A Chevy towing a Ford. :biggthump

99ranger4x4 11-03-2009 11:26 PM

Ever looked under the hood of a Ford with a 5.4, then under the hood of a Chevy with a 5.3? Working on the 5.4 sucks balls. haha

I took it up to the shop today, did about 50, everything seems fine.. The most I'll be doing flat towing is 55 anyways.

99ranger4x4 11-03-2009 11:54 PM

didnt renew the registration, not on the insurance (needs to go back on) and the inspection sticker went into the trash with the windshield.

Downey 11-03-2009 11:59 PM

i dont understand how you can leave the wheel unlocked and tow at 55 wont it move all over the place. i have always wondered this when i see a camper towing a car like that do they lock the steering wheel or leave it unlocked. educate me plz

Hanks Rangers 11-04-2009 12:26 AM

does your instantly pull when you let go of the wheel? it shouldn't, basically its the same as driving your truck down the road. since he's got a bar hooked to the frame the alignment of the wheels keep the truck going straight. if i was hooked loosely yeah it would float all over not mentioning not being safe for everyone around you

99ranger4x4 11-04-2009 06:42 AM

so it follows you easier around turns.. Its sketchy yea, but it works.. I only plan on doing this once so hopefully it works out.
