Woo! Flat tow! hah

Its not ideal but it'll work for this trip, I'm just goin whats normally a 45 minute drive away.
Still gotta weld on tabs for the safety chains, I'm considering just hooking them to the front receiver. Then get some lights, or take my time and tap into the stock lights. I towed it around the neighbor hood earlier and it seemed to track behind the Chevy perfectly. Attachment 131377 Attachment 131378 Attachment 131379 Attachment 131380 |
What is this trip consist of and thought you where going to sell it?
|
i've wondered what you've been doing to the ol' beast....
|
looks nice. took it out of the neighborhood or somewere were u could go faster to test it?
|
Do you lock the steering wheel in place?
I've seen a sami be flat towed, but never anything that big lol |
i know it has the power to pull but i want to see it on a trailer! i got money is sags like no other!
|
What do you do if you break an axle shaft or something? I thought the point of a tow rig was to throw it up on a trailer.
|
i would throw a dollie under it.... but thats just me

plus if i do break a 9" shaft its bearing retained so the tire won't walk out unlike the worthless 8.8 haha.. If i break a 44 shaft, well if i break both the one in there and my spare.. i'll just pull it all out so it'll steer. |

sure you can. unlock the hub...

not when the ears of the axle shafts hit each other inside the knuckle, I've been there.

Mmmm. A Chevy towing a Ford. :biggthump
|
Ever looked under the hood of a Ford with a 5.4, then under the hood of a Chevy with a 5.3? Working on the 5.4 sucks balls. haha
I took it up to the shop today, did about 50, everything seems fine.. The most I'll be doing flat towing is 55 anyways. |

Its not street legal right now.

didnt renew the registration, not on the insurance (needs to go back on) and the inspection sticker went into the trash with the windshield.
|
i dont understand how you can leave the wheel unlocked and tow at 55 wont it move all over the place. i have always wondered this when i see a camper towing a car like that do they lock the steering wheel or leave it unlocked. educate me plz
|
does your instantly pull when you let go of the wheel? it shouldn't, basically its the same as driving your truck down the road. since he's got a bar hooked to the frame the alignment of the wheels keep the truck going straight. if i was hooked loosely yeah it would float all over not mentioning not being safe for everyone around you
|
so it follows you easier around turns.. Its sketchy yea, but it works.. I only plan on doing this once so hopefully it works out.
