1999 2.5 Tach hook up

So I’m trying to put an aftermarket tachometer on my truck. Can’t seem to find a tan wire with a yellow stripe anywhere. Has anyone ever tried using a induction clamp off an old timing light as a pick up?

Got it done!

Found this on the ranger station.

A - Its not hard at all. The powertrain plug is located under your hood on the passenger side of the engine compartment in the rear. It is a pretty big plug - about four inches long or so. In that cluster of wires is a yellow wire with a brown stripe. that is the one I hooked my tachometer up to in my 1999 Ranger with the 2.5

that took care of it!

Pin 48 on PCM(the big connector on firewall) has the tach signal, it should already be wire to the instrument cluster, and yes a tan/yellow stripe wire at that end

You won't find it just look at wires under the dash, you have to pull out the cluster

You can swap clusters to get stock tach
