I have an 88, 5spd, 4x4 ranger with a blown 2.9, now i have 2 options, put in another 2.9 that i have out of a rotted 86, or, if it works, put in a 2.3 out of an 86 mustang, will the 2.3 bolt up to the 2.9's 5 speed? thanks to anyone who answers this

 

no the bellhousing pattern is completely different. The only engines that will work with the 2.9 bellhousing pattern are the 2.9/2.8/4.0
