2.5L P0104 and PCV Valve
So on my ride back from Cleveland Tuesday my CEL popped on. So I stopped at an AZ and had them check it. I got P0455 and P0104. The 0455 is an old code still stored from when I forgot to snap my gas cap on a few months ago so I'm worried about it but the dreaded P0104 EGR flow code is a new one. I understand this code is common, especially on 4.0s because of the "elbow" tube that cracks. So I've found a TON of thread about that but none for the 2.5L.
I figure it's either the EGR, one of the lines/tubes, or the DPFE sensor. Anyway to pinpoint it at home and what/where are the lines/tubes I need to look at? Where is the DPFE sensor? I am also experiencing some surging while driving and lurching when starting. Also, the one maintenance item I have yet to address is the PCV valve. I have never heard of it until I saw it in a regular maintenance thread. I figure mine is due, anyone know where to locate it on my engine? |
The 2 CELs that I have had were solved by changing the DPFE, look near the exhaust manifold.
PCV valve is below the #2 intake side plug. |
Well I ordered a Motorcraft DPFE from rockauto for $70 and a Motorcraft PCV for like $8. Not too shabby. Hopefully it clear up my CEL otherwise it's another $75 for a new EGR. We'll see :)

I would look at where the egr connects to your intake manifold. I've seen those holes just get completely clogged up from all that crud going back to your engine. I think there is a screen there so that can get clogged pretty bad.

I did the DPFE last night and the PCV. The old one was fine but $10 so no biggee. If the light pops back on I will pull the EGR off and see whats up with the crap in there.

P0455 is the code for a major leak or no flow at all
P0104 is not a trouble code for a 2000 Ford Ranger 2WD 2.5 L. |
