'84 2.0l rebuild..Suggestions?
Hey, Im currently rebuilding a 2.0L engine for my '88 ranger. I degreased the engine and tore it down to see what it needed.. I got all new bearings, seals and gaskets. A new timing chain and tensioner, and also a waterpump. My carb rebuild kit shold be here saturday. I plan to get a new cap ad rotor, or do you think i would be better off getting a new distributor...? I am inthe process of porting the head, then i will be getting the head decked, triple cut valve seats, and an extra cut on the back of the valve. The intake ports will be gasket matched, the combustion walls around the valve will be shouldered, and after i get it inspected next month... a header will lead off new exhaust. I wanna clean up the block, flush the water jackets, and replace the expansion pugs. Is there anything else i could do to gain some performance? I dont want to machine my bock other than honing. What is a good coil i can run? What do youthink about drilling the jets, or other carb modifications? ...any input is appreciated.

you should read this article
( i read up on this article many years ago )
basically they used the 2.5l crankshaft in the 2.0l engine
they modified the 2.0l pistons to accept the 2.5l connecting rods
they were quite shocked about the results on the dyno
although they never admitted what the dyno showed
( peeps on the internet say that it made over 220 ft lbs of torque )
